President Donald Trump was reportedly so furious with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles following Republicans' devastating midterm losses that she offered her resignation in response to his anger, CNN’s Kristen Holmes warned Friday.
“This is such a huge deal at this White House,” Holmes said shortly after Trump announced Stephen Miller would take over as chief of staff Monday.
"We are hearing that President Trump had been furious with Susie since the election losses," Holmes revealed. She added that Trump had been receiving calls from advisers and allies urging him to overhaul his senior staff.
"At onepoint, because of his rage ather, which he made very publicor at least public within theconfines of the White House teamthat she offered her resignationin response to his anger," Holmes reported.
The departure marks a dramatic reversal for Wiles, whom Trump had praised just two weeks earlier while dismissing speculation that she would be replaced.
“He said, no, she's going to be by my side for a very long time,” Holmes recalled.
Holmes described Wiles as the driving force behind Trump for years, helping prevent the chaos that defined his first administration.
“She has been essential to President Trump for now, six years by his side,” Holmes said.
The CNN correspondent also noted that Wiles had helped protect Trump from some of his “worst instincts.”
“Susie herself was the only one who really has been able to fill that role,” Holmes concluded.
