Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) launched a tirade against CNN's Jake Tapper in the latest episode of his "The Verdict" show.
Tapper, along with Axios' Alex Thompson, are unveiling a new book, "Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again," which details several new allegations about former President Joe Biden's deterioration behind the scenes in his final year of office and the effort by his inner circle to conceal this fact from even many members of his own administration.
But as far as Cruz is concerned, Tapper was in on the cover-up.

"This is, this is like a book, 'Arsonist Discovers A Fire He Started!'" said Cruz. "This is like a book, 'Tony Montana The Drug Dealer Says Cocaine Is Bad For You!' Like, yes, Jake, there was a cover-up, an absolute, complete, total cover-up, it was knowing, it was deliberate, and you did it. You, Jake Tapper, and CNN were 24/7 engaged in the cover-up, you knew about his mental decline, and you refused to tell anybody."
Cruz and a number of other right-wing voices have asserted for a year the media engaged in a concerted effort to bury concerns about Biden's age and fitness until the presidential debate that ultimately led to Democrats persuading him to exit the race. The truth is likely more complicated.
Nonetheless, the release of the book, which details several claims including that Biden's own Cabinet officials were excluded from access to him and that his aides considered whether they would have to put him in a wheelchair, has set off a new wave of right-wing fury against Tapper and Thompson, as well as outrage from more liberal sources considering the entire issue a distraction given Trump's visible signs of decline.
