Texas man drinks liquid explosives after he’s busted trying to bomb Confederate statue

A Texas man previously convicted on explosives charges has been arrested in a new plot to bomb a Confederate memorial.

Andrew Schneck was arrested Saturday night after a Houston park ranger spotted him hiding in some bushes near statue of Confederate officer Richard Dowling in Hermann Park, reported the Houston Chronicle.

Federal authorities said Schneck had two boxes with duct tape and wires and a tube containing the powerful explosives nitgroglycerin and hexamethylene triperoxide diamine.

The 25-year-old Schneck tried to drink the liquid explosives he was holding but spit them out when the ranger confronted him, federal authorities said.

His arrest came after a day of protests at the Spirit of the Confederacy statue at Sam Houston Park.

Authorities on Monday evacuated residents who lived near a home owned by Schneck's parents just north of Rice University.

Schneck was released from probation last year for his 2015 conviction for storing explosives.
