Tom Cotton warns he is holding up Merrick Garland's nomination

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is planning to slow down the confirmation of Merrick Garland, President Biden's pick to head the Justice Department, POLITICO reports.

According to a series of tweets posted by Cotton on Wednesday, Garland refused "to answer basic questions" in his written answers on immigration, the death penalty and guns.

"Ensuring the Senate has time to debate these issues and get answers is the same thing that Senate Democrats did for Bill Barr," Cotton wrote. "We're not going to have one standard for Trump's nominees and another for Biden's."

Now, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will need to complete certain procedures before a final vote is held -- a step that Democrats hoped Republicans would skip.
