Republican hounded for weird wolf 'obsession': 'It's all he talks about'

CNN's Pamela Brown was caught off guard by a Democratic congresswoman's claim about a Republican colleague who's running for Wisconsin governor.

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), who lost her Democratic primary for U.S. Senate last week, appeared Wednesday on "The Situation Room" to discuss this week's primaries in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and she praised David Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive who won his party's nomination for governor, but warned that his GOP opponent, Tom Tiffany, had some unusual views.

"Holysmokes, he is so ready to go runa big state like Wisconsin," Stevens said, "andthis Tiffany that he's runningagainst. I served with him inthe House, and he's a nice guy,but he is kind of narrow, allright, and he's deeplyconservative, and his bigpriority is wolves. He wants tohunt wolves. I'm not kidding.He's talked to me about it manytimes on the House floor."

"Crowley, on the other hand, is an executive operator, and I think he's, you know, moving and grooving to this governorship, and it's amazing," Stevens added. "Also, 40-year-old Black man, you know, we're seeing Black men like Donavan McKinney in Michigan win a big primary. This is cool stuff. It's a good time to be a Democrat."

Brown looked perplexed by something Stevens had said and circled back to the topic.

"Can I just follow up on thewolves thing?" Brown said. "You said he wants to huntwolves. Like, are you sayinghe's distracted by thispriority or what's the – what'swhat's going on there?"

Stevens indicated that Brown had understood her point.

"Iswear to you, it is all this mantalks about," Stevens said. "Listen, I havebeen to Wisconsin many times, you know, I did a bunch ofbusiness there, door-knockingthere. By the way, there's somegreat small businesses in Milwaukee. I had one of the besthot chocolates in my life; theygot this Blue Hour Coffee there, Discourse Coffee, Goddess and the [Baker] Coffee, you know, allthe TV people there shouldgo to those small businesses."

"But I'm telling you," she added, "Tiffany isnot connected to the smallbusinesses and the needs of Wisconsinites, and you can getsome other people on your showwho will tell you how, Imean, he's just obsessed withchanging the gun laws or the hunting laws to hunt wolves.It's all he talks about."

Brown said she hoped to follow up with Tiffany himself.

"Well, he's welcome to come onthe show anytime, and we'llcertainly ask him that question," Brown said.
