'Flexing' Trump is reveling in 'spectacle' of LA clashes: CNN analyst

President Donald Trump is reveling in the spectacle he created in Los Angeles with thousands of National Guardsmen and Marines on standby to quell the unrest of a few dozen bad actors.

CNN's Dana Bash read from a Ron Brownstein article saying, "Trump is governing as a wartime president with Blue America rather than any foreign adversary as its enemy."

"And don't take Ron Brownstein's word for it — although he has very smart words — take the president's word for it," said CNN's Jeff Zeleny. "He said two nights ago, 'We are going to send troops everywhere.'"

Zeleny claimed that the "chaos is intentional and organized."

"[Trump] is flexing his presidential authority. And quite frankly — I'm told by people who are around him — enjoying what he's seeing, enjoying this spectacle." Zeleny said.

He added, "But the emergency — I'm just always struck by our colleagues on the ground in Los Angeles just describing how small of an area we are talking about here. And I think that cannot be said enough."

Trump posted to his Truth Social platform Tuesday that he would invoke the Insurrection Act if he felt pushed to do so.

"If there's an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it...If we didn't get involved, right now Los Angeles would be burning just like it was burning a number of months ago...We are not playing around…" the president wrote.

The Insurrection Act "authorizes the president to use military forces to suppress domestic violence or rebellion when it makes it impossible to enforce the law in a state," according to the Brennan Center for Justice.

The last time it was invoked was by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 when riots broke out in Los Angeles after the acquittal of police officers in the beating of motorist Rodney King.
