A South Carolina Republican was condemned by Twitter users when he made a crack about gun control on the anniversary of the mass shooting in Sandy Hook -- and he made things worse for himself by trying to defend his remark.
Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) -- who has received $10,500 from the NRA since his first campaign, including $2,000 for his 2016 re-election campaign -- said he doubted France would call for "knife control" after a teacher claimed he was stabbed by a man shouting about the Islamic State, reported Think Progress.
He was met almost immediately with criticism.
As it turned out, investigators believe the man faked the attack and actually stabbed himself with a boxcutter, although authorities in France aren't sure why.
