'Use often!': Defiant Trump insists he'll keep saying 'Mission Accomplished' despite near universal ridicule

President Donald Trump on Sunday lashed out at critics who mocked him for congratulating the United States military on their strike against Syria by bringing back the phrase "mission accomplished."

"The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term 'Mission Accomplished,'" the president wrote. "I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often!"

Trump's declaration of "mission accomplished" after the Syria strike drew widespread comparisons to the "Mission Accomplished" banner that was hung behind former President George W. Bush shortly after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

The banner went on to become a symbol of Bush administration hubris, as a bloody anti-American insurgency in Iraq claimed thousands of lives for years afterward. In fact, even former Bush White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said this weekend that Trump should really avoid declaring "mission accomplished" prematurely.
