WATCH: This was WDBJ reporter Alison Parker's last story before her death
WDBJ reporter Alison Parker was described as a rising star at her station and had moved in with her boyfriend just before the 24 year old's life was robbed by a gunman early Wednesday morning.
Parker and photographer Adam Ward, 27, were on assignment, reporting on tourism when former co-worker Vester Flanagan -- also known as Bryce Williams on air -- allegedly walked up to them with a hand gun and shot them point blank. He captured the shooting on camera and posted it to social media, and also tweeted what appeared to be a confession.
Flanagan was apparently fired from the station last year and filed a lawsuit claiming discrimination, which was dismissed.
Parker, who had just returned from a vacation celebrating her birthday, was described by colleagues as a "rock star" who could meet any challenge.
In her final report, Parker can be seen interviewing officials from the Mill Mountain Zoo about an upcoming fundraiser so early in the morning the sun hadn't even come up yet.
"You've got a cute little chinchilla here," she says brightly to the zoo's education manager, Bambi Godkin, who is cradling the furry creature. Signing off, she told the audience that later that evening, the station would be taking a tour when the animals are more active.
