'What the f*ck, Ben Carson?': Larry Wilmore slams GOP candidate's 'insane' comments on mass shootings

Larry Wilmore ripped Ben Carson for repeatedly blaming the victims of a mass shooting in Oregon and suggesting they should have attacked the gunman.

The Republican presidential candidate bragged that he "would not just stand there and let him shoot me," and claimed he could convince other unarmed, untrained civilians to charge an armed shooter.

"You are out of your f*cking mind," Wilmore said. "You know, the sad thing is, he probably can shoot you all thanks to your party's position on not wanting to limit high-capacity magazines."

Carson repeated his claims, saying an unarmed charge toward a gunman could work because "he can only shoot one of us at a time" -- which the retired brain surgeon punctuated with a giggle.

"You're laughing? What the f*ck, Ben Carson?" Wilmore said. "That's chilling. This guy's a doctor -- I can't imagine him bedside manner."

The "Nightly Show" host pointed out that one of the victims -- an Army veteran named Chris Mintz -- was shot seven times but survived attempting what Carson suggests untrained civilians should do.

Carson, however, admitted he had never heard of Mintz but argued that his story only "verifies" what the candidate says should be done during the next, presumably inevitable, mass shooting.

"You're giving horrible advice," Wilmore said. "People are still grieving over their loved ones, and you're going to blame the victims for not fighting against a gun? Yes, Chris Mintz was heroic, but you don't advise people who are untrained to handle situations like that -- it's too dangerous."

"Even the police on the scene, trained to do this, ran the risk of being killed," he continued. "Those are the only people you advise to fight back. Becoming the president means you're the commander-in-chief of the military. So your war philosophy would be, we don't need weapons or training -- just attack. They can't kill us all. Oops, killed us all!"

Wilmore said Carson stood little chance of following President Barack Obama and "make our country go 'black to black.'"

"He's falling into that classic trap that has defeated so many promising but ultimately insane Republican candidates: He's opened his mouth and told people what he really thinks," Wilmore said.
