The White House wants to appoint a second special counsel to investigate the FBI and DOJ

On Monday, a White House spokesperson said the Trump administration's lawyers are in favor of appointing a second special counsel to investigate the FBI and Justice Department.

Aboard Air Force One, deputy press secretary Raj Shah told Axios that President Donald Trump's attorneys have already approved the concept.

Shortly after the release of the controversial House GOP memo alleging the FBI abused their powers when acquiring a surveillance warrant for former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called for a second special counsel to investigate the memo's claims.

"I like the FBI, I like the Department of Justice. But we need a special counsel to look at potential abuses of power," he told a local NBC broadcast in Augusta, Georgia the day the memo was released. "Somebody needs to watch the watchers."

Graham has publicly stated his belief in the need for a special counsel to investigate "abuses" at the Justice Department at least three times before the memo was released.

Axios reported on Sunday that House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), the author of the memo and an ally to the White House, may release as many as five more memos about supposed abuses and bias at the DOJ and FBI.
