Whoopi Goldberg: I'm glad to see there is actually a line in the sand for the Republicans

The women of "The View," even the progressive ones, celebrated Republican elected officials who have drawn a line in the sand on the involvement of Russia in the election.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg announced the news that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would be opening a probe into the Russian involvement in the 2016 election. McConnell, Goldberg noted, said that the Russians are not our friends despite Trump being warm to them now and during the campaign.

"Didn't he know this before the election?" co-host Joy Behar asked. "He knew that they were hacking before the election."

The woman wondered why McConnell would be coming out against it only now and speculated it could be because he wants to be on "the right side of history."

Goldberg thinks that McConnell and other Republicans have simply had enough with Trump on these issues.

"This is his line in the sand," Goldberg said. "You can't turn us over to Russia. And if there's an issue -- and Trump has said there's something wrong, you know, it's crooked. So, now we're seeing that there might have been some crooked stuff, so everybody should be very happy to find out that America is going to remain their own country and not be a puppet government for Russia."

Behar wondered why Trump doesn't seem to be interested in proving that the election wasn't rigged or that Russia wasn't involved.

Co-host Sara Haines called this Trump's greatest flaw: His ego. "This is a moment where he said himself there were millions of people that voted. It doesn't change the vote," she said.

Goldberg noted that this isn't the first time Russia has involved itself in another country's election and installed a so-called "puppet government."

"Look, would she have been elected if all the e-mails hadn't been hacked? We'll never know," Goldberg continued. "We will never know because there was lots of rigging going on in different places, I think. But the idea that we are suddenly this third world country that needs someone to come in ... it's what we do to other countries. We say, 'Hey, you're not doing this. This is not the democratic process.' And suddenly now it's us, and I'm glad Mitch McConnell is saying, you know what, 'This is my line in the sand.'"

They also mentioned Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who are both also standing up to Trump on this issue.

The ladies were also shocked about Donald Trump ally Roger Stone's latest revelation that the Trump transition was just to "toy with Mitt Romney" in considering him for Secretary of State.

"So, you can add to the list the qualities that Trump has: Sadism," co-host Joy Behar said on Tuesday's show. "Because he's mean. He wants to get back at people and make them suffer and humiliate them. I mean, really?!"

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin didn't believe it, despite Whoopi Goldberg pointing out that it was a direct quote from Stone. Hostin said that if that was the case they never would have named Rick Perry to be the Energy Secretary since Perry called Trump a "cancer on conservatism."

Behar claimed that it all comes back to Romney being more attractive than Trump and Trump being jealous of it.
