The ruling has the effect of thwarting a major judicial attack on public sector unions, and also shows how the unexpected death of Antonin Scalia is already beginning to transform the American legal and political landscape.

Mainstream and right-wing media are melting down as they fumble coverage of Donald Trump

If Donald Trump didn’t constitute, in this year’s favorite word, an existential threat to American democracy, the contortions into which he has thrown the Republican Party, as they simultaneously try to thwart him while espousing his basic policies, would be hilarious.

The prohibitionists just unleashed this repugnant statement about harm reduction -- let's tear it apart

As we approach April’s UNGASS special summit on drugs, it can feel like the momentum for worldwide drug policy reform is unstoppable. Just in the past week we’ve seen the US media remind itself that a key Nixon aide openly admitted that the War on Drugs began as a way to target “the anti-war left and black people.”  We’ve seen prestigious health experts from The Lancet and John Hopkins University issue a condemnation of prohibition and call for decriminalization. And we’ve seen former presidents of Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Nigeria and Switzerland renew their call for change.
