'That's not consistent': Chris Wallace hammers Texas AG over ban on vaccine mandates for private businesses

Fox News host Chris Wallace challenged Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to explain why Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has issued an executive order preventing private businesses from requiring Covid-19 vaccines for their employees.

During an interview on Fox News Sunday, Paxton argued that President Joe Biden and the federal government do not have the power to require companies with more than 100 employees to mandate vaccines or weekly testing for Covid-19.

Unvaccinated Texans make up vast majority of COVID-19 cases and deaths this year, new state data shows

New data from the Texas health department released Monday proves what health officials have been trying to tell vaccine-hesitant Texans for months: The COVID-19 vaccine dramatically prevents death and is the best tool to prevent transmission of the deadly virus.

Out of nearly 29,000 Texans who have died from COVID-related illnesses since mid-January, only 8% of them were fully vaccinated against the virus, according to a report detailing the Texas Department of State Health Services' findings.

Documents expose 'staggering pattern of political interference' in Trump's Covid response

Documents released Friday reveal how in early 2020 the Trump administration downplayed the deadly danger posed by the nascent Covid-19 pandemic, silencing and sidelining top health officials who tried to warn the public and destroying evidence of political interference while issuing rosy declarations that the outbreak was "totally under control" and would soon be over.

"The Trump administration's use of the pandemic to advance political goals manifested itself most acutely in its efforts to manipulate and undermine CDC's scientific work."

A remarkable precedent: FL Republicans want to pay workers who refuse to submit to vaccine mandates

The state of Florida would pay workers to quit their jobs by giving them unemployment benefits rather than submit to vaccine mandates under legislation filed for Gov. Ron DeSantis' special session of the Legislature, due to convene next week.

That's a provision of SB 2, one of four bills introduced as part of the governor's campaign against vaccine and mask mandates in workplaces and public schools. The state also has filed lawsuits seeking to overturn President Joe Biden's plan to require vaccinations for businesses, health care providers, and federal contractors.

Gene Simmons calls ‘delusional, evil’ anti-vaxxers his ‘enemy’

Kiss fans wanting to rock and roll all night with Gene Simmons had better come vaccinated. “If you’re willing to walk among us unvaccinated, you are an enemy,” the 72-year-old bassist said in a Rock and Roll Channel interview on Talkshop Live. Simmons spoke about the band’s “Destroyer” album, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, and expressed regret that some of his fans can’t see Kiss play because of their anti-vaxxer hang-ups. “This whole idea, this delusional, evil idea that you get to do whatever you want and the rest of the world be damned, is really terrible,” he told host St...

COVID-19: Is the fourth wave in Germany a warning for the rest of Europe?

With a record number of new cases of Covid-19 recorded on Wednesday, the seven-day average soaring and hospitals increasingly under pressure, the health situation in Germany is rapidly worsening. This fourth wave could prove to be the worst since the beginning of the pandemic, even though some 70 percent of the adult population has been vaccinated. The scenario risks being replicated in other European countries.

Germany has set a series of grim records on the health front in recent days. On November 10, the country recorded 39,676 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, its highest tally during the pandemic. This despite a vaccination rate of nearly 67 percent of the adult population.

‘QAnon Shaman’ could face more than 51 months in prison as ‘face of the Capitol riot’

He’s gonna have to ditch the antlers for that prison stint. The so-called “QAnon Shaman” could face more than four years in prison when a judge sentences him for his role in invading the Capitol on Jan. 6. Prosecutors asked a federal judge to sentence Jacob Chansley to 51 months in prison, the toughest recommendation yet in any case stemming from the violent insurrection effort. The conspiracy theory adherent went shirtless and infamously donned a headdress with antlers while leading thousands of screaming attackers who overwhelmed police and marauded through the Capitol. “Chansley’s now-famou...

Merck expects COVID pill to reach rich and poor countries simultaneously

US pharmaceutical giant Merck has vowed to avoid the pitfalls of the global Covid vaccine rollout by ensuring its new anti-coronavirus pill is made available in wealthy and poor countries at almost the same time.

Paul Schaper, the company's executive director of global public policy, told AFP that Merck began working on its access strategy from July 2020, long before the efficacy results of the drug it developed with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics were announced in October 2021.

Ron DeSantis’ surgeon general got his medical license approved in just two days

It's been just a few days since Florida Surgeon General was attacked by former colleagues at UCLA for inflating his resume and lying about his work during the COVID-19 crisis in Los Angeles hospitals.

The Florida Ledger reported Wednesday that Dr. Joseph Ladapo's medical license was approved in just two days, a process that normally takes 2-6 months, the board's website says. The fact was also confirmed by medical and legal professionals who know the process. The report also noted that all of the members of the 15 person Board of Medicine were approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). The governor has been criticized for more than a year for his handling of the pandemic, concealing data about how many people in the state got the virus or died from it and other concerns.

Missouri’s GOP governor mulls jobless benefits for anti-vaxxers after yanking them from others

Republican Gov. Mike Parson of Missouri -- one of the nation's most aggressive governors in cutting back unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic -- has found a protected class he'll provide for generously: Employees fired for refusing their companies vaccine protocols.

Parson has floated the idea of following the footsteps of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, who late last month signed a bill guaranteeing employment benefits for those who lose their jobs for refusing to get vaccinated. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported yesterday that Parson is couching the move as pushback to President Joe Biden:
