Ivanka Trump cut off a phone interview with Cosmopolitan magazine after being asked to comment on her father's statement that pregnancy was "inconvenient" for business, the magazine reported on Wednesday.
"I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions, and I think my father has put forth a very comprehensive and really revolutionary plan to deal with a lot of issues," she said shortly before the interview's conclusion, according to an exchange published in the report.
The interview first got contentious when the interviewer, Prachi Gupta, asked Trump if her father's child care plan -- announced earlier this week -- would apply to male same-sex couples.
"The policy is fleshed out online, so you can go see all the elements of it," Trump said. "But the original intention of the plan is to help mothers in recovery in the immediate aftermath of childbirth."
But as Jesse Berney reported for the magazine, that is not true:
Only mothers can apply for the unemployment insurance. Fathers are left out completely. But it isn't just us heteronormative dads who aren't covered. His plan makes no mention of LGBT relationships. Two dads adopting a kid? No leave for you. (In fact, the maternity leave policy doesn't mention adoptive parents at all.) If a newborn has two moms, are they both eligible for unemployment insurance? What if, god forbid, a mother dies in childbirth? Can a single dad apply for leave to take care of his newborn child, or does his gender mean he's out of luck? (Needless to say, the Republican nominee's plan doesn't address questions of transgender or nonbinary parents.)
Gupta pressed Trump on the issue, asking, "I just want to be clear that, for same-sex adoption, where the two parents are both men, they would not be receiving special leave for that because they don't need to recover or anything?"
"Those are your words, not mine," Trump replied. "Those are your words. The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not."
Trump also dodged when Gupta brought up her father's remarks regarding pregnancy to NBC News in 2004, when he called it "a wonderful thing for the woman, it's a wonderful thing for the husband, it's certainly an inconvenience for a business. And whether people want to say that or not, the fact is it is an inconvenience for a person that is running a business."
After accusing Gupta of "negativity," Trump praised her father's plan and said, "I don't know how useful it is to spend too much time with you on this if you're going to make a comment like that."
"I would like to say that I'm sorry the questions — you’re finding them negative, but it is relevant that a presidential candidate made those comments, so I'm just following up," Gupta responded.
"Well, you said he made those comments," the younger Trump insisted. "I don't know that he said those comments."
Shortly afterward, Gupta asked the Trump Organization executive how her father would pay for the plan if elected, given that he has also promised to build a "wall" across the US-Mexico border, as well as increase defense and infrastructure spending while also cutting taxes.
Trump said it would be part of her father's "overall budget and economic vision," and will be included in a tax policy speech the Republican presidential nominee is slated to give on Thursday.
At that point, she concluded the interview, saying, "I'm going to jump off, I have to run. I apologize."
A CNN panel discussion on the tightening polls dissolved into laughter after Donald Trump spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany got a bit carried away and suggested Trump was headed for a landslide.
Addressing Trump's day while Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is taking a few days off, McEnany lauded the GOP candidate for staying on message.
"He has stayed on message consistently," she remarked. "That's why he's leading in Florida not only in one poll, two polls, but the three latest polls, all reputable polls. He's leading in Ohio by two polls by four points. He's within five points in Pennsylvania and Michigan."
It was at this point when the Trump spokesperson went a bit too far.
"This is momentum that could develop into a landslide," she insisted as one panel member could be heard laughing.
"He's not just tightening the race, he's opening up gaps now, " she continued, before addressing former Bernie Sanders strategist Jonathan Tasini, "I know John thinks it's anyone's to dig in there--" as the rest of the panel could be heard joining the laughter.
Tasini was then seen shaking head saying, "Momentum into a landslide? I mean..." before dissolving into more laughter.
Missouri lawmakers on Wednesday overrode Governor Jay Nixon's veto of a bill requiring voters to show government-issued photo identification in order to cast a ballot in the state starting in 2017, after this year's presidential election.
The Missouri Senate voted 24-7 for the override on the heels of a 115-41 House vote earlier in the day. A two-thirds majority was required in both chambers for the override.
The bill would take effect in 2017 if voters in November pass a state constitutional amendment in support of the law. That is necessary because the Missouri Supreme Court ruled 10 years ago that such a law violated the existing state constitution.
A spokesman for Nixon, who vetoed the bill in July, did not immediately return a call seeking comment after the vote, but the governor previously decried the law as disenfranchising voters.
Courts in recent months have blocked voter ID laws passed in several states with Republican-led legislatures after civil rights groups argued the measures were discriminatory against poor and minority voters.
Under the Missouri bill, voters will need to produce a driver's license or other government identification with a photo at the polls in order to vote. Residents without such an ID can now show another current identifying document, such as a utility bill or check, to vote.
Voters without a photo ID can still vote if they sign an affidavit swearing to not having that type of identification. However, election officials can take their picture and steps must be taken to get a photo ID for later use, with the state covering the cost.
Supporters of the bill said it brings integrity to the voting process and will help prevent fraudulent votes.
"Why not have more certainty in the election process?" Republican Rep. Justin Alferman, the bill's main sponsor, said in a statement before the vote.
Opponents of the bill, however, have said the law disenfranchises young, minority and low-income voters who may not have government-issued IDs. Those voters are often Democrats, according to opponents.
"Putting additional and unwanted barriers between citizens and their ability to vote is wrong and detrimental to our system of government as a whole," Nixon said in his letter explaining the veto.

Donald Trump was apparently so upset by one of Lewis Black's Daily Show segments that he tried to contact him about it, Black told The Daily Beast.
"His assistant called my assistant, said he wanted to talk to me," Black recalled. "At first, it was like, ‘What? Why would he call me? No one ever called me about anything I ever did on The Daily Show. So I said I was too busy and couldn't talk to him. I thought, 'Wow, I'm a comic, he's an entrepreneur—a businessman. How is it that I'm more busy than he is? That's unbelievable."
Black said in the 2011 segment that Trump's embrace of "birtherism" was a signal that the then-Apprentice host was planning his own presidential run.
"I, for one, couldn't be more on board," Black cracked at the time. "Trump 2012 -- you're fired, America!"
What the US needed, Black argued, was "a crazy Third World dictator."
"He's got what every good dictator needs: a ridiculously over-sized ego," he argued, adding, "This is what I've been waiting for my whole life! A president who's not afraid to tell the truth -- about being a lying a*shole."
That commentary -- ominously titled "President Trump" -- prompted the real estate mogul to try to contact Black not once, but twice. Black told The Beast he outright refused to take the second call.
"I didn't want to talk to him to legitimize him. That's how I felt," he said. "'If I accept his call, that legitimatizes him. And I didn't want to give him any little sense of legitimacy that I could have given him by answering the phone."
Black said he would rather vote for "someone of another species" instead of Trump in this year's election, but did say that he thought both Hillary and Bill Clinton suffered from "a lack of common-f*cking-sense." If "push came to shove," he said, he would vote for the former Secretary of State.
"I'm certainly not going to be happy about it," he added. "But once [Trump] said Mexicans were raping, and pillaging, and stealing our avocados, the ballgame was already over for me."

As the footage spread online of Rev. Green Faith Timmons stopping Trump for politicizing his remarks, the Republican presidential nominee was heckled online for what was called an attempt to exploit the city's water crisis for the sake of a photo opportunity, as seen below.
However, Trump's supporters -- naturally -- took umbrage with the reverend's actions, as exemplified below:
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton released a brace of medical documents Wednesday in response to questions about her health following a pneumonia diagnosis on Friday and an incident of light-headedness on Sunday during a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives during the terror attacks of Sep. 11, 2001.
ABC News reported that Clinton's personal physician Lisa Bardack, M.D. said that a medical examination performed on Wednesday at Clinton's home found the candidate “was normal and she is in excellent mental condition."
Bardack said that with regards to pneumonia, Clinton is “recovering well with antibiotics and rest” and that “she continues to remain healthy and fit to serve as President of the United States."
Today's statement said that Clinton's lab work was within normal limits, her blood pressure tested at 100/70 and her mammogram and breast exam results were normal.
Clinton is set to return to the campaign trail on Thursday.
Trump surrogate Sarah Huckabee Sanders got asked about Donald Trump's past embrace of the birther conspiracy theory, and she tried to deflect criticism for his past statements by blaming Hillary Clinton.
Her efforts were not successful.
MSNBC host Thomas Roberts quickly slapped down Sanders's false claim that Hillary Clinton's campaign was responsible for originally questioning Barack Obama's birthplace back in 2008 during the heated Democratic primary.
"Her campaign did not ask for a birth certificate," Roberts said. "They did not question whether he was a natural born citizen. They didn't do any of that."
It goes without saying, Roberts noted, that Trump most certainly did.
"Donald Trump actually said, 'I sent investigators to Hawaii, and what they found is shocking, I'm going to reveal all of that,'" said Roberts. "He revealed nothing."
The entire time Roberts was rebutting her, Sanders could only smile and look nervously at the camera.
"I think that issue's been put to rest, I don't think anyone disputes that Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen born on American soil," she said, although it's notable that Donald Trump has never said he actually believes this, nor has he apologized ever for spreading the "birther" conspiracy.

Donald Trump knows he could stand to lose a few pounds but otherwise is in great health, campaign adviser Sarah Huckabee Sanders told MSNBC on Wednesday after the Republican presidential candidate filmed a TV segment about his well-being.
Trump taped an episode of the "Dr. Oz Show" in New York that will air on Thursday, in which he gave host Dr. Mehmet Oz a summary of a physical exam conducted last week. Trump's campaign has said he will also release more medical information to the public.
The show released a short clip on Wednesday that did not include any medical information. In it, Trump told Oz he had two letters with him showing results of tests conducted last week.
“May I see them?” Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, asked, sitting in a chair next to the 70-year-old New York businessman.
“Yeah, sure,” Trump said, handing over papers he pulled from his jacket pocket.
Huckabee Sanders said she did not see the summary Trump showed Oz, but said she knew he got a "great report and is in very good health." She said Trump's rigorous campaign schedule showed his stamina.
"He self-admitted he could lose a few pounds," she said. "I think that's most of America, but otherwise he's in incredibly good health."
Trump and Hillary Clinton, 68, the Democrat facing him in the Nov. 8 presidential election, have both promised to release more medical information.
Clinton this week took several days off the campaign trail to recuperate from a bout with pneumonia, after she nearly collapsed on Sunday at a memorial ceremony for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Clinton plans to resume campaigning on Thursday, her spokesman said.
Previously, Trump's campaign issued a short letter from his doctor saying he was in excellent health, but without such details as whether he takes any medications. Clinton in 2015 released a two-page letter outlining her own medical condition.

Keith Olbermann turned his attention toward Donald Trump's "point man" regarding Hillary Clinton and her health, Rudy Giuliani, on Thursday's edition of The Closer, pointing out that Giuliani wasn't the subject of any political attacks after a past bout with prostate cancer.
"Did any of your opponents have the gall to attack you over your own health?" he asked regarding Giuliani's failed run for the GOP presidential nomination. "Did any of your opponents do that when you were first diagnosed, while you were running for the senate seat for New York? Who were you running against again? Oh right -- Hillary Clinton."
When Giuliani had to end his 2000 campaign against Clinton because of the illness, Olbermann pointed out, Clinton called him to wish him a speedy recovery, a sharp contrast to the former New York mayor's insistence that "videos on the Internet" should cast doubt on the Democratic nominee's own health.
"For crying out loud, Hillary Clinton has been campaigning with pneumonia since at least last Friday, and making more sense than Donald Trump has in his entire campaign," said Olbermann. "How's her health? She's frickin’ Wonder Woman."
The former MSNBC host also mocked ex-colleague Tom Brokaw for saying that Clinton should "see a neurologist."
"I think you should go to a mirror and see if you have any journalistic credibility left," Olbermann said. "It was pneumonia. Bad guess, Tom."

Snoop Dogg is about to begin filming "Martha and Snoop's Dinner Party," but Snoop had a few things to say that had nothing to do with dinner and polite conversation over a fancy meal.
Snoop recently led a march to the Los Angeles Police Department where participants protested police brutality and the shootings of African Americans by police.
"I never really had respect or understanding of the police until I got older and realized that most police officers are humans, too," Snoop told Rolling Stone. "But that day was about saying, 'We aren't going to be done like this anymore by you.'"
He continued that when incidents happen between police and community members he does hope that everyone, including officers, make it home safely. "Every day of our lives, this is what we've been going through with the police," he said. "Getting beat, getting pulled over for nothing, getting harassed, getting killed. All that shit been going on for years, but now there's cameras and now they're saying everybody's woke. No, we've been woke."
Snoop recently posted a video trashing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and specifically calling him a "punkass." He questioned how someone as “reckless” as Trump could actually run the country.
"I been around for a long time. I seen Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bushes, Clintons. And I never seen a motherfucker like him," he said."
When it comes to the new show, Snoop gushed about his new co-host.
"I've never met anyone like Martha Stewart," he said. "When we come together, it's a natural combination of love, peace and harmony."
When asked if the two will be smoking marijuana along with drinking and eating, Snoop encouraged folks to watch and see.
A CNN interview with a man who was in the audience for Donald Trump's appearance on The Doctor Oz Show took an odd turn on Wednesday when he revealed that he was a "fashion designer" selling campaign merchandise.
On Wednesday, the Trump campaign denied reports that the candidate would share results of his recent physical exam on Oz's show, and then later changed its story again, saying that some health information had been revealed.
In an attempt to clear things up, CNN host Ashleigh Banfield spoke to Laurance Rassin, who had been in the audience during the taping of Trump's appearance on the show.
"He was very transparent and he brought his medical records," Rassin insisted. "His cholesterol was actually lower than mine, which was pretty impressive. I think he has a great medical record right now. He's been healthy, he said he's been healthy. I believe him. He's got a great report from his doctor. And I think that's great for his candidacy and ultimately great for America."
Rassin said that he was "amazed" that "we were actually sitting in the room while Dr. Oz went over Donald Trump's medical record."
"He said he'd like to lose a few pounds, but who wouldn't," the audience member declared. "This was purely facts. This was like you were in the room when you were getting the report back from the doctor like you do after a physical."
"And Doctor Oz, he was impressed," he added.
Before concluding the interview, Banfield noted that Rassin was wearing an unusual Donald Trump T-shirt.
"Are you a Trump supporter are you a Trump fashion follower?" Banfield asked.
"Well, you know, I -- I'll take that again," Rassin said as if he thought the interview was being taped. "Sorry. I'm a Donald Trump supporter. I have been. I met him several times at his club in Palm Beach. I think he's a good candidate and he just wants to make America great again."
The fashion designer explained that he sold "fashion for both candidates."
"I have a candidate collection for this week's Fashion Week," he remarked. "And we'll be hitting the press with Diamond and Silk, who are supporters of Trump's, narrating my fashion show."
