CNN's Chris Cuomo hammers Republican who tries to claim Donald Trump is 'good for black people' because of prison reform
Ken Cuccinelli, former Virginia Attorney General agreed with artist Kanye West that President Donald Trump is good for black people. However, CNN's Chris Cuomo hammered Cuccinelli on his claim during his Thursday night show.
Cuccinelli supported his opinion that Trump is good for black people by citing advancements in prison reform.
"Let me zero in on one thing I care a lot about, and that is criminal justice reform, which has been something focused on by a large number of members of the leadership of the black community for years," Cuccinelli said. "President Obama did nothing but talk about it, and this White House has shepherded a criminal justice reform bill to the verge of passage."
Cuomo said that caring for the black community is much more than only caring about prison reform.
"Let's see what's in the bill. If you can pass policies, that's good, but when it comes to race and people, what you say matters. I don't think that if you would look at an African-Americans and ask them — if you get an extra $5,000 in your pocket, is it okay if somebody calls you a dog? Is it okay if you get shot by a cop and everybody kind of blames you for it, and if you protest, we're going to talk about you differently?"
He added, "To think that African-Americans only care about criminal justice reform assumes that's where they live most of the time is in prison. Obviously, they care about education and the economy and the environment and a lot of other things."
"You treat people equally," he said.
