'Really pathetic': Republican rebukes GOP colleagues for years of 'disgusting' lies

Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin, a conservative Republican, had some harsh words for his party after a disastrous midterm night that saw Democrats achieve control of the state legislature.

Specifically, he told them to stop pushing MAGA conspiracy theories about elections being stolen — because it's dragging the whole party down.

"Arizona needs to move on from the Cyber Ninjas era," he said, referencing an infamous Florida security firm that conducted a rogue audit of the 2020 election for Arizona Republicans. "And my fellow Republicans need to stop lying about allegations and conspiracy theories about election fraud."

"I saw previous colleagues on the Board of Supervisors endure death threats, and were driven out of office," said Galvin. "I had three new colleagues come into office, and then I saw them subjected to the same things. They all came in telling voters that they respected their concerns about election conspiracy theories, but they quickly learned and saw that those conspiracy theories had no merit."

"But to my fellow Republicans who have been trafficking these lies for the last six years, you need to stop," he continued. "Because you have led to the destruction of the Republican Party here in Arizona, and frankly around the country. I have seen it firsthand, and it is disgusting ... Really pathetic stuff, and the people who are trafficking these messages, they know it is a lie."

"In the very beginning, I actually wondered if some of them believed it, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt," he added. "But after six years, I know if anyone is pushing this, they are lying."
