A prominent GOP strategist conceded Tuesday night that he may have misjudged the midterms after early returns pointed to significant Republican losses.
Democrats entered Election Day with momentum in public polls, and the final New York Times/Siena poll showed Democrats leading in key races across the Midwest. As the votes were tallied, veteran GOP strategist Shermichael Singleton said Republicans appeared likely to lose not only the House but the Senate.
“I have to admit that I may have been wrong. I thought that Democrats, at a minimum, would only win 2 to 3 Senate seats, but if these trends continue, Republicans will not only lose the House but are definitely going to lose the Senate,” Singleton posted on X.
Singleton’s House prediction has already come true. Decision Desk HQ, CNN and NBC News all projected Democrats would win control of the chamber. Control of the Senate had not yet been projected.
