In an opinion piece published Wednesday, the Journal's editorial board delivered a scathing analysis of Trump’s demand for interest rates to drop, which he added on his Truth Social platform “would go hand in hand with upcoming Tariffs!!!”

Trump appears to backtrack on tapping white nationalist for key role: report

Not even 10 days after announcing his appointment, President Donald Trump seems to be quietly backtracking on one of his most controversial administration appointments.

Last week, Trump announced he was tapping Darren Beattie for undersecretary of public diplomacy and public affairs at the State Department. A longtime associate of Steve Bannon, Beattie once served as a speechwriter for Trump but was fired after it was revealed he attended the white nationalist H.L. Mencken Club in 2016 and spoke alongside Peter Brimelow, founder of the anti-immigrant extremist website VDARE.

Inflation is heating up again, putting pressure on Trump to cool it on tariffs

Inflation figures released on Feb. 12, 2025, will come as a disappointment to Americans who hoped President Donald Trump would be true to his word on bringing down prices “on Day One.” It will also put pressure on the new administration to be wary of policies that may heat up inflation – and that includes tariffs.

The consumer price index, which measures the change in prices paid by consumers for a representative basket of goods and services, rose unexpectedly from December to January by 0.5%. It means consumers are paying around 3% more on item prices than they were a year ago.

The State Department appears likely to award a $400 million contract to tech billionaire Elon Musk's Tesla Motors to deliver an "armored Tesla" to the federal government — a procurement forecast first modified in December, before President Donald Trump was sworn in but after he was elected, according to Drop Site News.

Musk, already one of the federal government's largest contractors through his SpaceX firm, also happens to head up the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, task force, which is currently pushing mass layoffs of civil servants and other dramatic cutbacks to various federal grants and services in the supposed name of balancing the budget.

Elon Musk's takeover of federal systems could blow cover of American spies: report

President Donald Trump's close associate and billionaire benefactor Elon Musk is doing more than crippling the civil service and infiltrating government IT networks with his Department of Government Efficiency project, wrote Shane Harris for The Atlantic — he could be putting American spies, and the entire U.S. intelligence system, in jeopardy.

"To protect secrets, people who will be handling classified information or assuming positions of trust within intelligence agencies are vetted, often by law-enforcement agents, who interview friends and co-workers, review travel histories, and analyze financial information to determine whether someone might make an attractive recruit for a foreign intelligence service," wrote Harris. "Perhaps he’s in debt and would be willing to sell sensitive information. Or maybe she harbors some allegiance to a hostile country or cause and might be willing to spy for it. Looking for these red flags is counterintelligence 101, an imperfect, laborious, and invasive process that American presidents of both major parties have nevertheless accepted as the cost of doing intelligence business."
