Rows of empty seats expose Trump's GOP kickoff as 'sold out' boast falls flat

The Republican midterm convention that President Donald Trump hyped up is already drawing mockery over swathes of obviously empty seats.

The event kicked off on Wednesday, and the GOP had already been concerned about the event's attendance and viewership, not only because of Trump's low approval ratings but also because of its scheduling overlap with the NFL kickoff. The American Airlines Center in Dallas is hosting the two-day event, and entire sections of its upper seating were empty, according to footage from inside.

Trump's favorite European allies are quietly siding with Canada amid trade war: report

Even Europe's most Trump-friendly governments are lining up behind Canada in its escalating trade fight with the United States, in a striking snub to a president who's spent months courting the continent's right-wing leaders.

European Union ambassadors from all 27 member states met in Brussels Wednesday to discuss deepening ties with Canada, just hours after Washington moved to block a range of Canadian goods, including dairy products, alcohol and motorbikes, from entering the U.S. market, Politico reported. According to two officials granted anonymity to describe the confidential talks, not a single country objected to the plan, despite the obvious risk of appearing to side against Washington.

Top red state election official hauled before court to face contempt over defied map order

The Missouri Supreme Court ordered Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins to appear in person Thursday and explain why he should not be held in contempt for directing election officials to use a congressional map the court has barred him from implementing.

One topic Fox News relentlessly hyped has nearly vanished from primetime: analysis

In March, as the United States and Israel opened Donald Trump's war on Iran, Fox News couldn't stop talking about it. Six months later, with the conflict bogged down and increasingly unpopular, the network's biggest evening stars have nearly stopped mentioning it, according to a new Media Matters analysis.

The progressive watchdog counted references to "Iran" across five Fox evening "opinion" shows, The Five, The Ingraham Angle, Jesse Watters Primetime, Hannity, and Gutfeld!, and found they fell 78% from June to August, dropping from 801 mentions to just 178. In March, when the strikes began, those shows said "Iran" more than 2,300 times. Watters' program alone went from 258 mentions in June to 46 in August.
