Trump lashes out at Major League Baseball in overnight rant announcing pardon of Pete Rose

Taking a break from attacking Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky after an ugly scene in the Oval Office on Friday that shocked the world, Donald Trump, seemingly out of nowhere, lashed at Major League Baseball in an overnight rant on Truth Social.

To go along with his pardons of the rioters who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, the president announced he is going to pardon the late baseball great Pete Rose who has been banned from entering the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Rose, the all-time hits leader was banned by MLB after he was found to have bet on baseball games and later admitted he lied to investigators.

On Truth Social, Trump insisted the real disgrace was the shunning of the longtime member of the Cincinnati Reds who later played for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos.

"Major League Baseball didn’t have the courage or decency to put the late, great, Pete Rose, also known as 'Charlie Hustle,' into the Baseball Hall of fame. Now he is dead, will never experience the thrill of being selected, even though he was a FAR BETTER PLAYER than most of those who made it, and can only be named posthumously. WHAT A SHAME! " the president ranted.

He then added, "Anyway, over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete PARDON of Pete Rose, who shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING. He never betted (sic) against himself, or the other team. He had the most hits, by far, in baseball history, and won more games than anyone in sports history. Baseball, which is dying all over the place, should get off its fat, lazy ass, and elect Pete Rose, even though far too late, into the Baseball Hall of Fame!"

Trump's Russia pivot keeps China guessing on Ukraine

US President Donald Trump's abrupt pivot to Russia will remould Moscow's ties with China but is unlikely to prise apart its flourishing partnership with Beijing, analysts say.

Since taking office last month, the US president has sought to unravel three years of Western opposition to the invasion of Ukraine, sidelining Kyiv and European allies while pushing a deal to end the war on terms purportedly favourable to Moscow.

Boxes of classified documents taken by FBI from Mar-a-Lago returned: Trump

After fiery Trump-Zelensky spat, what next for Ukraine?

The fiery altercation between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday was shocking but not entirely unexpected, analysts say, with the way forward for Kyiv looking increasingly uncertain.

US President Trump has long been a critic of the United States's billions in aid for Ukraine after Russia invaded it in February 2022, and had promised -- without providing details -- to end the war soon after coming to office.

'Treasonous': Trump investigates public media reporters for criticizing his administration

Several journalists employed by an outlet funded by the U.S. government have found themselves in President Donald Trump's crosshairs, according to a new report.

In a Friday article, the New York Times reported that one longtime journalist at Voice of America (VOA) — which is funded by Congress through the U.S. Agency for Global Media (AGM) — had been put on an extended "excused absence" pending a human resources investigation following a tweet flagged by Trump advisor Richard Grenell.
