Senate urged to recall Kash Patel and put him under oath over FBI purge

During an appearance on Sunday afternoon, a very agitated former FBI official urged members of the U.S. Senate to drag Donald Trump's nominee to head up the department, put him under oath, and grill him over the ongoing purge that began immediately after his appearance last week.

Speaking with host Alex Witt, Frank Figliuzzi, who served as assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, claimed there is a strong possibility that almost half of the department's employees could be forced out, thereby putting the nation's security at extreme risk.

While speaking with the host, he suggested that Kash Patel, hand-picked by Trump to be his new FBI director may have deceived senators during his contentious confirmation hearing last week.

With Donald Trump's Department of Justice appearing to be lining up a massive purge, Figliuzzi said he was skeptical that Patel has been out of the loop about what the Trump administration is doing.

"It certainly appears that he attempted to deceive the committee," the former FBI official accused. "I think this is being done deliberately."

"By that, I mean, I think this purge is supposed to happen before he walks in the door so he can claim plausible deniability," he elaborated. "'I don't know what happened, I didn't do it,' yeah, that what's going to happen here."

"What the Senate should do is call him back to the Hill and say, 'Please explain under oath, you had no knowledge of this purge that's happening here? Of course that's incredible and he should not be confirmed," he added.

After sharing the clip of the former South Dakota governor speaking with host Kristin Welker, less was said about what she told the NBC host and more was said about how she repeatedly keeps costuming herself for TV interviews.

Co-host Symone Sanders Townsend jumped in right after Michael Steele smirked and quipped, "Cowboy lady."

"The secretary of Homeland Security continues to don these outfits to, like, dress up and make it look like we're being tough on the border," she began. "It's the bomber jackets and the hats. For me, it's that now she's down at the border, I guess this week, so now it's the cowboy hats and the tan."

"This is me when I go to the ski resort, I got all the outfits, but I'm not getting on the slopes. Just because we put it on does not mean that you are doing the work," she joked before later adding, "It's just not. This is performative art. And, you know, and it's bad, the hat wasn't even good."

Turning serious, co-host Steele added, "This performative dress-up, you know, fun and games with Kristi Noem has real consequences for people. and that's the thing that we need to be made aware of, that this performative act has real consequences, as we've already begun to see at the FBI in raids in New York, etcetera."

'It felt like they kept explaining': MSNBC host points to evidence of White House panic

During an MSNBC segment on Donald Trump launching what could turn into a trade war, one MSNBC host claimed that a bevy of emails she received on Saturday seemed to indicate panic at the White House.

With the co-hosts of MSNBC's "The Weekend" joined by MSNBC colleague Chris Hayes to discuss the tariffs that went into effect on Saturday aimed at Canada, Mexico and China, co-host Alicia Menendez claimed there may be doubts behind the scenes in the Trump administration.

After guest Hayes said of Trump, "He has a pathological obsession with tariffs. Like he genuinely, truly believes like –– yes, it's part stunt, yes, it's part demonization –– but also you can't move him off this idea, this wrongheaded idea that tariffs are the solution to all of America's problems," Menendez interjected a personal note aimed at her co-host Symone Sanders Townsend.

"Symone, I was thinking of you last night," she began. "Did you notice, I had, like, I went into my email and there were, like, five different emails from the White House as though they put out five statements from this and i was thinking of you as someone who has done that work before. It didn't project confidence, right?"

"Like when you actually believe that what you're going to do is work, you're like, ''Here's the thing, we're doing,'" she added. "It felt like they kept explaining."
