A North Carolina Republican is facing mounting questions following a Saturday night incident at a Rotary Club conference where a witness said he struck a man with a clipboard, according to local media reports.

Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) said he was the victim of “an intoxicated man” who was “belligerent and later called the police.” But Guy Gooder, a Rotarian who helped organize the event, told a different story.

President Donald Trump's new "refugee resettlement" program for white Afrikaners from South Africa was slammed by a former State Department official in the Obama administration and a former editor for Time Magazine during a segment on MSNBC with Nicolle Wallace on Monday afternoon, calling it "deeply and morally wrongheaded and repulsive."

"These are the descendants of the people who created the most diabolical system of white supremacy in human history, apartheid," said Richard Stengel. "They're not directly responsible for it, but it was a system that actually moved Black people off of the arable land. So they inherited the land that the Black people had to give up. It was called forced removal. It was something called a Bantustan policy, where they moved Black people out of the cities and farmlands into these remote areas with non-arable land. I mean, it was just one of the most, worst processes ever."

Former Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) called President Donald Trump's acceptance of a $400 million gift from Qatar "problematic."

Speaking on a CNN panel Monday, McHenry explained, "Like most things in the Trump era, two things can be true at once," prompting a chuckle from host Kasie Hunt.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) lashed out Monday afternoon at Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) for attacking the GOP plan on the state and local tax deduction, or SALT.

Under Republican proposals for President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill," the limit on the amount that can be deducted from federal taxes to pay state and local taxes, an animating issue for New York politicians, would be raised from $10,000 to $30,000, although the tax break would be limited to people making under $400,000 a year.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace created a split-screen on her show Monday afternoon, showing President Donald Trump telling families they must learn to live with less in his economy while accepting a $400 million plane as a gift from Qatar.

At the top of her second hour, Wallace coined it: "Donald Trump's war with the 30-doll family."

The White House Correspondents Association issued a sharply worded statement Monday condemning what it called an “unprecedented exclusion” of wire service journalists from Air Force One as President Donald Trump travels to the Middle East.

“For the first time since the White House press corps started traveling with American presidents abroad, no wire service reporter is aboard Air Force One today,” the organization said. “As the president travels across the ocean for high-stakes meetings in the Middle East, the White House has decided not to include any wire reporter on the presidential aircraft.”
