House Republicans wouldn't mind if bad election night 'woke up' Trump: CNN host

Some GOP lawmakers privately hope Election Night goes poorly for Republicans to wake President Donald Trump up to the need to boot tech billionaire Elon Musk out of power, CNN anchor and analyst Kasie Hunt told panelists just ahead of the first poll closings.

Republicans face their first statewide election since 2024 with a Wisconsin Supreme Court contest heavily targeted by Musk and a pair of Florida special elections for deep-red districts that Democrats were hopeful to outperform in despite all odds.

Winner declared in Florida special election for seat vacated by Mike Waltz

Republican state Sen. Randy Fine has been declared the winner of a special election to fill the congressional seat vacated by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, defeating Democrat Josh Weil in Florida's 6th Congressional District.

Waltz overwhelmingly won the ruby-red district by 30 points in November before becoming President Donald Trump’s national security adviser. But despite Waltz’s double-digit lead five months ago, Republicans on Capitol Hill feared that anger over the Trump administration’s policies could spill over into the Florida special election and help Democrats flip the House seat.

Musk blasts Dems who supported prison for J6ers — but not 'actual violence' against Tesla

Pro-Trump tech billionaire Elon Musk vowed on Fox News that the Trump administration is going to take down people organizing violent demonstrations against his Tesla dealerships as criminal racketeering enterprises, implying that these attacks have been worse for the country than the Jan. 6 attacks that sought to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

"It is remarkable that there is so much violence," said Musk. "People have burnt cars, they fired bullets into dealerships, they've scratched swastikas into Teslas of the innocent people that have — they're just going about their lives they've done nothing wrong, and Tesla has done nothing wrong as a company."

‘Trying to understand’: Senator who backed RFK Jr. now on defense after massive HHS firing

As the Trump administration’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., presses forward with a mass firing in a sweeping effort to downsize the agency tasked with safeguarding the nation’s well-being—including removing top leaders from key programs, including from the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—a Republican Senator who cast the pivotal vote that enabled the controversial anti-vaccine activist to take the helm of the massive public health agency is facing scrutiny and backlash.

During Kennedy’s confirmation process U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana became an important voice and crucial vote in persuading his fellow Republicans to support what many saw as an extreme candidate. Cassidy, who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, is a medical doctor who worked for decades in public hospitals, and is an active vaccine advocate.

US movie theaters urge 45-day 'baseline' before films hit streaming

New films must be exclusive to movie theaters for at least 45 days before they become available on streaming, the head of the industry's US trade organization said Tuesday.

'Whole idea of proxy voting is the concern': Top Republican digs in amid GOP rule fight

House Republican leaders are showing no signs of compromising in their bitter fight with their own rank and file over whether to allow members of Congress who need maternity leave to vote from home, with Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) appearing to tell CNN's Manu Raju that it's now more about keeping the caucus in line than it is about the merits of the rule change itself.

A bipartisan discharge petition is circulating to change House rules to allow proxy voting for new moms, with one of the key people spearheading the fight being Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), a militant pro-Trump lawmaker who herself gave birth two years ago. Leadership tried to thwart the measure with a vote to add retroactive restrictions to discharge petitions, only for a handful of Republicans to join Luna in crossing the aisle to block that measure.
