'Frustrated' Republicans obstruct Trump's new round of cuts

A new wrinkle has emerged in President Donald Trump's legislation to eliminate federal funding for foreign aid and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, narrowly passed in the Senate with only Republican votes earlier this week.

According to CNN, the package, which would codify in appropriations many of the cuts Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has sought to make, is "being held up for now in the House because of unrelated frustration from some Republicans over their leadership’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, according to sources."

Beaten down Republicans desperate to be sent home as Epstein backlash rages

House Republicans are feeling beaten down by the firestorm of controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files, Politico reported, and they just want to get back home.

Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) have sponsored a bipartisan "discharge petition" that could force the House to take a vote on forcing the Justice Department to release the Epstein files — a vote many Republicans are terrified of, because they would be caught between the demands of their constituents and the opposition of President Donald Trump.

'Guy is toast': Vance roasted by ex-lawmakers as he tries to sell Trump's cuts

Vice President JD Vance got a round of roasting on MSNBC by former Reps. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) and Max Rose (D-NY) for his effort to sell President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill," even while he tiptoes around making any mention of the fact that the legislation — which he cast the tiebreaking vote for in the Senate — cuts around $1 trillion from Medicaid and provides little tax benefit to the voters he is trying to motivate.

"What I ask every single person to do is take what I've said — of course, go and do the research yourself, but go and talk to your neighbors, go and talk to your friends about what this bill does for American citizens, because we don't want to wake up in a year and a half and give the Democrats power back," said Vance at a recent event in Pennsylvania.

Mike Johnson mulls new measure to quash MAGA fury

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is reportedly considering backing a GOP-led measure to quell the fury from Republican voters over the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

Long alleged to have engaged in child trafficking and maintained a client list of powerful people for blackmail purposes, Epstein died of suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on human trafficking charges. A DOJ memo last week concluded no evidence existed that he maintained a client list for blackmail purposes, sparking outrage among President Donald Trump’s strongest supporters.

'Alligator Alcatraz' records disappeared the day after Dem accessed them

A prominent Democratic state representative in Florida is alleging that private contracts to build and maintain the controversial immigrant detention facility in the Everglades known as "Alligator Alcatraz" vanished from the online Florida Accountability Contract Tracking System just a day after she accessed them, reported the Miami New Times.

"It seems that the DeSantis administration just pulled more than a dozen contracts tied to the Everglades Immigration Detention facility from a public database of state contracts," wrote Anna Eskamani, now running for mayor of Orlando, in a post on X. "These contracts total more than $200 million in taxpayer spending, and they are public records."
