'With friends like that!' Nicolle Wallace in awe at Tucker Carlson-Ted Cruz feud
Amid the ongoing debate about whether the U.S. should go to war against Iran, MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace brought up the clash between fired Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who, she said, called Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) "an idiot."
For Donald Trump, often U.S. foreign policy is set based on who was last in his ear, and it is just as likely to be one of those two as anyone in the circles in which John Brennan used to run, right? An expert," Wallace said when speaking to Alex Wagner.
"What do you make of this? First of all, Tucker Carlson basically calls Ted Cruz an idiot, which is amazing," Wallace continued. "With friends like that, I'm not sure why they mess with all of us. But the idea that Tucker Carlson is calling BS on Ted Cruz — is it a more significant thing inside this movement? The MAGA movement exists around Trump's impulses, and chief among them is — even if it's delusional and wacky — no wars."
Wagner explained that it's one of the few things about Trump that he's stayed true to.
"Which is why it's as if he doesn't realize what he's setting himself up for in all of this, which is a massive schism with the coalition he has worked years to build. I mean, there are people that will leave. There is some reporting that people are thinking about leaving the Trump coalition if he does, in fact, do this," she added.
Similar to the run-up to the Iraq war, Trump maintains that Iran doesn't currently have a nuclear weapon but has the tools to make one.
On Tuesday, "The Daily Show" mocked this idea, showing clips of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming for the past 30 years that Iran was about to have a nuclear weapon within weeks.
