Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been hospitalized for an undisclosed medical reason, his spokesperson confirmed on Sunday, NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin reported.

“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” said McConnell's spokesperson David Popp, according to Tsirkin.

Formerly the Senate majority leader, McConnell has had a number of notable health scares over the past several years.

In 2023, he suffered a concussion after falling at a Washington, D.C. dinner event. Later that same year, he suffered multiple freezing spells where he abruptly stopped speaking. And in February, McConnell was rushed to the hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms “in an abundance of caution,” Popp previously said.

At 84, McConnell is among the longest-serving and oldest members of Congress.
