White House reporter marvels at unexpected Trump smear: 'That's what he said!'

President Donald Trump spent the Thanksgiving holiday weekend trying to boost Republican turnout in a surprisingly close special election in Tennessee, and a White House reporter marveled at his attacks on the Democratic contender.

The president hyped GOP candidate Matt Van Epps in Tennessee's seventh congressional district race, where Democratic state Rep. Aftyn Behn is polling much closer than expected in a district Trump won convincingly in each of his three campaigns. USA Today correspondent Francesca Chambers highlighted one of his Truth Social posts.

Supreme Court's Trump loyalty finally tested by 'cut and dried' Hegseth case: Morning Joe

Using the accusations that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has committed war crimes and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem admitted she defied a court order from a well-regarded conservative judge, MS NOW host Joe Scarborough claimed the Supreme Court now has good reason to rein in the White House.

On Monday, the panel on “Morning Joe” piled on both Hegseth and Noem for weekend boasting that they can do whatever they please, which led Scarborough to build upon comments made by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius about White House lawlessness.

Trump sparks defiance as multiple Republicans balk at latest policy plan

GOP members are turning on the Trump administration as they point to a flawed policy that they would not personally back.

One representative observed there were clear "disadvantages" to a 50-year mortgage policy floated by Trump, while another said they simply "wouldn't take one out." Trump's 50-year mortgage plan was floated earlier this year as the president claimed it would mean you "pay less per month."

Ex-Army commander exposes MAGA's corruption of 'patriotism'

During the 1980s, Republican President Ronald Reagan and liberal House Speaker Tip O'Neill (D-Massachusetts) had plenty of political disagreements yet were genuinely fond of one another. Reagan sometimes criticized O'Neill from a policy standpoint; other times, they found common ground. Yet Reagan never questioned O'Neill's patriotism.

In a think piece published by the conservative website The Bulwark on Monday, retired U.S. Army Gen. Mark Hertling — a scathing critic of President Donald Trump — lays out the contrasts between the "patriotism" of 2025 and Reagan's view of "patriotism." And he warns that today's "patriotism" is a tribalist perversion of what Reagan considered patriotic during the 1980s.

GOP set for severe election bruising in ruby red district that 'Trump dominated': Expert

A special election in a deep-red Tennessee congressional district could serve as a bellwether for next year's midterm elections, and CNN's data expert Harry Enten said the results will likely give Democrats a good feeling about their chances for retaking congressional majorities.

Democratic state Rep. Aftyn Behn and Republican Matt Van Epps will face off Tuesday for a chance to replace Republican Mark Green, who left Congress in July for a private sector job. Polling ahead of the election shows a much closer race than many expected.

Scarborough rips Trump for putting troops in 'extraordinarily dangerous legal situation'

During U.S. President Donald Trump's first term, a combination of Democrats and traditional non-MAGA conservatives often attacked his America First foreign policy as dangerously "isolationist." The late conservative Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) believed that Trump was being manipulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Democratic former President Joe Biden considered Trump an existential threat to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Yet Trump, during his second presidency, is drawing vehement criticism from both Democrats and the non-MAGA right for his Venezuela policy, which includes a series of military strikes against Venezuelan boats that Trump claims were transporting illegal drugs to the United States and possible strikes in Venezuela itself.

Trump DOJ compares 'antifa' case to jihadist who directed attack on Benghazi

Federal prosecutors will argue that “adherence” to “violent and extremist Antifa ideology” shores up material-support-for-terrorists charges against protesters who shot fireworks, destroyed a surveillance camera, and vandalized vehicles and a guard shed at a Texas ICE facility on July 4.

Donald Trump’s Department of Justice also intends to cite previous cases involving jihadist and white supremacist defendants.

'He's not hearing them!' Trump allies flustered as they watch him cast aside MAGA base

President Donald Trump has all but abandoned the political rallies that defined his 2016 campaign and first presidency according to a new analysis in The Atlantic Monday, opting instead for his golf clubs, sporting events and international trips that have left some of his allies worried he’s lost touch with voters.

“People voted for him to lower prices, to bring manufacturing back, to stand up to those taking advantage of them,” said someone described as a “close Trump ally,” speaking with The Atlantic's Jonathan Lemire on the condition of anonymity. “They didn’t vote for him to build a damn gilded ballroom. He’s not hearing them.”
