The husband of a U.S. service member killed in an Iranian strike earlier this year confronted Vice President JD Vance with a call for accountability, CBS News reported.
On March 1, Master Sgt. Nicole Amor was one of six people killed in an Iranian strike in Kuwait, just one day after President Donald Trump initiated his deeply unpopular war against Iran. During a CBS News town hall that aired Saturday, Amor’s husband, Joey Amor, pressed Vance on whether U.S. military leadership would be held accountable for his late wife’s death, as well as the deaths of other U.S. service members.
“Though the Iranian drone was the weapon that killed my wife, there were a lot of mistakes and a lot of fundamental failures that led up to that… my wife has told me things before she passed,” Amor said.
“There’s a failure in the leadership. And I want to know how this administration is gonna start holding those leaders accountable for the actions and the deaths of the soldiers that we honor and that we love.”
Vance first referred to Nicole Amor as a “precious human being who served her country honorably” before vowing to “figure out what exactly happened and what exactly we can do better.”
“Because if there were failures, and I don’t doubt there were, I just … literally the first time I’ve heard of this is this conversation, and I want to fix that stuff. I do not want this stuff to happen,” Vance said. “You live in a bit of a bubble [as vice president and] sometimes information doesn’t filter up to me.”
The Trump administration was scrutinized in the wake of the deadly Iranian strike in Kuwait, with reports suggesting the facility was unprepared for such an attack.
