Trump freaks out on the DOJ over government document prosecution

The special counsel investigating President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents isn't expected to file any charges, and Donald Trump predictably raged against the news.

Special counsel Robert Hur and his team are expected to issue a detailed report criticizing the current president and his staff for their handling of sensitive materials, but two sources close to the investigation told CNN that no charges are expected at the conclusion of the year-long probe.

GOP congressman can’t explain why he’s ‘undecided’ on expelling George Santos

A Republican U.S. Congressman is struggling to explain why he's "undecided" on expelling U.S. Rep. George Santos, after a House Ethics Committee subcommittee created to investigate the New York GOP lawmaker under federal indictment on 23 felonies released a damning report that it says finds more possible violations of the law and will recommend Santos be referred to the U.S. Dept. of Justice.

"I look forward to the presentation of the facts," U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) told CNN Thursday afternoon (video below). "I haven't heard them or read them all myself. But I will say primarily this is between George Santos and the people that sent him here. And I imagine there's probably mixed feelings in his own district."

A convicted January 6 attacker faces prison. So he went to Mar-a-Lago to see Trump first.

Donald Trump’s $99 digital trading cards depict him as heroic, historic and iconic.

They’re political tools and a tribute to the unquenchable vanity and hero worship that Trump displayed Monday at an exclusive Mar-a-Lago gala, devoted to the Trump trading cards, that attracted at least one man willing to attack the U.S. Capitol in Trump’s name.

Trump team isn't thrilled to see his name alongside Hitler and Mussolini: report

President Joe Biden's campaign plans to highlight policy proposals by Donald Trump and his team as threats to democracy as the former president seems to have all but locked up the Republican nomination.

'Like a car wreck on the interstate': GOP senators wage late-night battle with Tuberville

Four Republican members of the US Senate went toe-to-toe with two of their own colleagues late Wednesday night over hundreds of military promotions that have remained in stasis for months.

Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Todd Young (R-Indiana) tried for the second time to push through the confirmation of hundreds of US military promotions in the early morning hours to no avail. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) was joined in his blockade by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who reportedly joined Tuberville's side not just over his abortion-related hold, but to protect procedural rules that allow a lone senator to block nominations. CNN producer Morgan Rimmer live-tweeted the hours-long exchange on the Senate floor.

Trump targeting Latino voters by claiming to be 'victim' of communists: report

Donald Trump is trying to win over Latino voters by presenting himself as a victim of socialists.

The former president chose Hialeah, Florida – which has a 95-percent Latino population – for his rally last week to counter the Republican presidential debate, and he raged about his felony indictments as "persecution" for what he called his resistance to communism, and local supporters say that message could resonate, reported Axios.

Michigan judge says only Congress can keep Trump off of the 2024 ballot

A Michigan Court of Claims judge on Tuesday agreed with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson that her office lacks the authority to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the ballot for the 2024 Republican primary election.

The ruling by Judge James Robert Redford determined that arguments as to whether Trump should be barred based on wording within the 14th Amendment are “nonjusticiable,” or outside the jurisdiction of the court. Instead, he said their political nature could only be decided by Congress.

Enacted in the wake of the Civil War, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies from public office any individual who has taken an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution but then engages in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or gives aid or comfort to its enemies. No prior criminal conviction is required.

Judge weighs protective order to block sharing of evidence in Trump RICO case

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said he plans to issue a protective order prohibiting prosecutors and defense attorneys from releasing any evidence considered to be confidential in the 2020 presidential election interference case.

McAfee’s decision in favor of the protective order was announced during an hour-long court hearing on Wednesday at which the district attorney’s office and the majority of lawyers representing the 19 defendants agreed to the guidelines proposed by co-defendant David Shafer, former Georgia Republican Party chairman.

According to the proposed terms of the protective order, sensitive information cannot be made public. District Attorney Fani Willis filed an emergency motion on Tuesday seeking a protective order prohibiting the public release of any evidence disclosed in the case after several media outlets obtained video footage of witness statements provided by four co-defendants as part of their plea agreements.

'Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn’t exist in the same reality': Dem slams Jan. 6 smears

A Democratic lawmaker – and former U.S. Army Ranger – pushed back strongly against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's claim that only Republicans stayed in the House chamber Jan. 6 to defend against rioters.

The Georgia Republican will publish a new book, MTG, next week, and The Guardian obtained a copy and published excerpts showing Greene claims Democrats were "hysterical" and fled the chamber after rioters – whom she has defended as "political prisoners" after their arrests – breached the U.S. Capitol.
