Biden pitches new $1.75T spending blueprint to Dems that drops paid family leave

President Joe Biden met with congressional Democrats on Capitol Hill Thursday morning to pitch lawmakers on a new slimmed-down framework for what would be included in a massive social reform package, according to senior administration officials.

The $1.75 trillion blueprint that Biden presented to Democrats includes a universal pre-K program for 3-and-4 year-olds, limits child care costs so that families do not pay more than 7% of their income, and extends funding for both for six years. Those two programs are estimated to cost $400 billion.

GOP legislators spoke at a QAnon convention chock full of conspiracies and hate

Four Republican members of Arizona's state legislature attended a QAnon convention in Las Vegas over the weekend that included speakers from the fringe of the conspiracy world as well as antisemitic imagery.

One of the legislators, Rep. Leo Biasiucci of Lake Havasu City, bragged to the attendees of Patriot Double Down that he stood strong against people who tried to convince him not to attend a gathering so closely tied to a violent extremist belief system that calls for the death of political enemies. He recounted an exchange he had with an unnamed Arizona lobbyist whose client was concerned about being associated with Biasiucci.

Why the 'malicious destructiveness' of a second Trump presidency would be much worse than the first: conservative

It remains to be seen whether or not former President Donald Trump will seek the GOP nomination in 2024's presidential election. If he does run, it's hard to imagine him not winning the Republican primary. Never Trump conservative David Frum, in an article published by The Atlantic on October 28, predicts that Trump will run — and warns that Trump's 2024 campaign, fueled by grievance and rage, could be even more toxic than his 2016 and 2020 campaigns.

"Trump has to be considered the massive frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination," Frum argues. "He's already running hard, and he's already dominating the field. Fox News' intense promotion of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as an alternative to Trump is not working out any better in 2024 than its similar effort on behalf of then-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in 2016."

One Republican senator after another harangued attorney general Merrick Garland, and two even called on him to resign.

Nearly every Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee attacked President Joe Biden's attorney general for issuing a memo urging prosecution for death threats directed at school board officials, and Sens. Police reformers stay skeptical of Val Demings, but other progressives back her Senate run

ORLANDO, Fla. — In 2020, U.S. Rep. Val Demings took some heat from progressives and police reform advocates when her name was floated as Joe Biden’s running mate, largely over her record as Orlando police chief. A year later, some of that skepticism remains about the Orlando Democrat. But now, her campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio next year and an increased focus on health care and economic issues have most progressive groups generally positive about her. “This is really not about her being a police officer,” said Sheena Rolle, senior director of strategy for the organization...

'Whiny' Trump slammed for 'freak out' over congressional wealth tax proposal

Democrats in Congress recently debated including a "Billionaire Tax" in their sweeping social package, which would apply to just 700 people and tax unrealized capital gains for the first time in the history of the U.S. tax code.

Ultimately, they scrapped this idea after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he didn't think it was workable. But just before doing so, former President Donald Trump released a statement trashing the proposal.

Democrats offer mixed messages as Biden presses domestic agenda

The White House and Democratic congressional leaders raced Wednesday to resolve lingering disputes on their giant social spending plan before President Joe Biden flies overseas -- although several lawmakers signaled that a deal by day's end looked impossible.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote to colleagues that Biden's domestic agenda was moving "closer to passing," but a key centrist senator later dismissed a new tax on billionaires to help pay for the $1.5-$2 trillion package as a non-starter.
