Misinformation abounds as House panel questions Arizona’s presidential election ‘audit’

WASHINGTON — It didn't take long for Thursday's congressional hearing about a controversial ballot review in Arizona to demonstrate the persistent misinformation about the validity of last year's presidential election.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, asked his colleague, Arizona Republican Andy Biggs, if he accepts the findings of the GOP-led review of ballots in Maricopa County. That so-called audit did not dispute the state's certified result that President Joe Biden won Arizona's electoral votes.

“Who won the election in Arizona? Donald Trump or Joe Biden?" Raskin asked Biggs.

“We don't know," Biggs incorrectly claimed, adding: “There are a lot of issues with this election that took place."

Wisconsin GOP ‘audit’ attorney caves on subpoenas and interviews of local election clerks: report

The effort by Wisconsin Republicans to conduct an Arizona-style audit of the state's 2020 presidential election reversed course on controversial subpoenas issued to local elections officials.

"In a dramatic turnaround, an attorney reviewing the 2020 election for Assembly Republicans on Thursday canceled interviews with mayors and city clerks and backed off on subpoenas he issued to them days ago," the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "Former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman over the last week demanded the officials give him every election record they have and sit for interviews with him this month. The request comprised hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of pages of records."

Biden DOJ blocked Senate from asking former officials about efforts to investigate Trump's 'voter fraud' claims

An official in President Joe Biden's Department of Justice blocked United States senators from asking former DOJ officials about what they did to investigate former President Donald Trump's "voter fraud" conspiracy theories.

Politico reports that veteran DOJ attorney Bradley Weinsheimer repeatedly frustrated senators from both parties who tried enquiring about the DOJ's efforts to probe claims of election fraud, as he "cited guidance he issued in July that paved the way for congressional testimony but limited the topics former DOJ officials were permitted to discuss."

Behind the scenes, the former president is encouraging those folks to defy the subpoenas, Politico's Betsy Woodruff reported Thursday. It comes despite warnings that it could put them in the crosshairs of the Justice Department.

Woodruff viewed a letter that Trump's lawyers are sending to those subpoenaed, incorrectly claiming that everything they're being asked is protected by executive privilege.

NC Republicans will probe 'millions' of claims of modems 'tampering votes' -- but machines aren't even connected to the internet

Republican legislators announced they're investigating possible election fraud in one of the North Carolina counties that backed President Joe Biden.

State Rep. Jeff McNeely (R-Iredell) conducted a "random drawing" of a county name pulled from a hat, and Durham County -- where Biden carried nearly 81 percent of the vote and which Republicans have previously accused of voter fraud -- was chosen for scrutiny similar to a shoddy "audit" recently conducted in Arizona, reported WRAL-TV.
