Trump's repeated efforts to disavow Project 2025 'not fooling anyone'

As the Heritage Foundation announced Tuesday that Project 2025's director will soon step down, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued efforts to distance his campaign from the far-right blueprint, despite the clear and well-documented connections.

"President Trump's campaign has been very clear for over a year that Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign, did not speak for the campaign, and should not be associated with the campaign or the president in any way," Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said in a campaign statement.

'3/5 compromise': J.D. Vance proposal compared to poison pill that led to Civil War

J.D. Vance has drawn widespread condemnation for arguing that parents should have more electoral power than childless voters, and a former Alabama senator compared the proposal to a poison pill embedded in the original Constitution.

The Republican vice presidential nominee has made a number of statements denigrating non-parents as "childless cat ladies" who have no real stake in the nation, and former senator Doug Jones rebuked Vance's suggestion that parents be allowed to vote on behalf of each of their minor children.

'Not a very serious person': GOP insider claims J.D. Vance dragging Trump down

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Way Too Early" to talk about who Vice President Kamala Harris will pick as her running mate, expected to be announced next Tuesday, the former top adviser to ex-House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) briefly turned to Sen. J. D. Vance's drag on Donald Trump's election chances.

Speaking with host Sam Stein, Brendan Buck cut to the chase and claimed that Trump's hand-picked running mate from Ohio is "not a very serious person."

After explaining to the MSNBC host that a vice presidential pick's main qualification is to do no harm to the ticket and make voters like them, Buck said Vance is a failure on all counts.

Before suggesting that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) should be at the top of Harris' list, he changed the subject to the embattled Vance.

"On the other side you have J.D. Vance who I think is demonstrating himself to be not a very serious person, or at least not mature person enough at this point and having a contrast with someone with real governing experience and has that competence is really important beyond the standard that something could be happen and you need to be ready," explained. "So that's obviously the most important thing and then delivering your message."

He later added, "The last thing you want is your V.P. candidate to be a distraction. A V.P. candidate has two jobs: introduce yourself and promote the top of the ticket and attack the other person. That's it. And if you're drawing attention to yourself in a negative way, then you're doing a disservice to the ticket."

A potential VP pick could hurt Harris’ chance of defeating Trump: analysis

Washington Post associate editor Karen Tumulty last week submitted that Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) would be the "smartest selection" to be Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, as he "would help inoculate her in areas where she is likely to be vulnerable" — such as immigration.

The New Republic's Timothy Noah, on the other hand, believes Harris would benefit from staying away from selecting the Arizona senator.

'Night and day': Laser-focused Harris rallies a 'complete contrast' to 'rambling' Trump

Donald Trump's signature long, tangent-filled rallies come in contrast to Vice President Kamala Harris' shorter, more focused speeches, the internet mused Tuesday night.

'They are not messing around': Internet praises 'refreshing' new Harris ad attacking Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign came out Tuesday with a fiery ad slamming former President Donald Trump on an issue that matters deeply to him: the border. And more specifically, how he worked behind the scenes to tank Republican support for a bipartisan bill that would have helped shore up border security, even as he attacked President Joe Biden for doing nothing about a surge in migrants.

"On the border, the choice is simple," said the ad's narrator. "Kamala Harris supports increasing the number of border patrol agents. Donald Trump blocked a bill to increase the number of border patrol agents. Kamala Harris supports investing in new technology to block fentanyl from entering the country. Donald Trump blocked funding for technology to block fentanyl from entering the country. Kamala Harris supports spending more money to stop human traffickers. Donald Trump blocked money to stop human traffickers. Kamala Harris prosecuted transnational gang members and got them sentenced to prison. Trump is trying to avoid being sentenced to prison."
