Americans may have just one more shot at thwarting President Donald Trump’s alleged efforts to “overturn” the upcoming midterms, Miles Taylor, former Homeland Security senior official, warned on Monday.
“We don’t know precisely what October surprise [Trump] has planned. We DO know what beats it, specifically,” Taylor wrote in an analysis published Monday on his Substack.
“A victory margin so large that no lawsuit or executive order can do anything to overturn it. ‘Too big to rig.’ I keep saying it over and over because I believe it. That margin will be determined by what happens on October 17.”
The organizers behind the nationwide No Kings rallies are preparing another mass mobilization for next month on Oct. 17, less than three weeks before election day, with tens of millions of Americans having participated in the previous three demonstrations. And, with Trump doubling down on his efforts to restrict mail-in voting and expand mid-decade redistricting, Taylor warned that the protests may be Americans’ last chance to make a difference before November's vote.
“Your vote is one vote. Great. But what you do on October 17 can multiply it,” Taylor wrote. “Acting early is crucial. Donald Trump has spent two years broadcasting to all of us that he’ll try to hijack the vote. He’s attempted to take over mail-in voting, threatened election officials, and laid the false predicate for contesting the results.”
The upcoming No Kings rally, Taylor argued, was “basically a launchpad for mobilizing the community to the polls,” and could potentially be the "largest voter outreach effort this country has ever seen in 250 years.”
Taylor, who served in the first Trump administration, urged his readers — and Americans more broadly — not to skip the demonstrations, arguing they are “as important as your vote on November 3, and possibly more so.”
“We have more education, resources, and forewarning than any generation that ever faced a moment like this,” Taylor wrote. “Will we use it? Or explain to our grandchildren that we were ‘busy that day?’”
