Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) publicly criticized President Donald Trump on Friday for accepting guidance from an unnamed "incompetent personal advisor" regarding what he called a "bogus settlement."
The North Carolina senator wrote on X, "The President made it clear today that the so-called Anti Weaponization Fund is still alive, which is exactly why we are attempting to formally end it."
Tillis, alongside Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), is demanding Trump end his Anti-Weaponization Fund or face a blocked confirmation vote for acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.
The dispute centers on Trump's support for Jan. 6 rioters, whom he characterizes as "great American patriots" while claiming they were "hunted down like dogs," earlier today on Truth Social.
Tillis countered that those who attacked police officers should remain imprisoned rather than receive federal compensation.
The two outgoing Republicans met with Blanche on Thursday to discuss the fund.
Trump said he'd consider withdrawing Blanche's nomination. Tillis attributed the confirmation delays to poor advice from a Trump insider whose identity he did not disclose.
"I will continue working in good faith to put an end this legal and political albatross and prevent any potential misallocation of taxpayer dollars," Tillis concluded.
