'Whoa!' Kaitlan Collins stunned by damage Hegseth's staff caused to priceless globe

CNN's Kaitlan Collins was stunned Thursday after a reporter revealed the extent of the damage caused to a priceless globe on her show.

The Washington Post reported that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's staff damaged a World War II-era globe that was used by former President Dwight Eisenhower when they tried to move it into Hegseth's office suite. Collins asked reporter Dan Lamothe, who reported the story, about what happened on Thursday's broadcast of "The Source," and his answer left her nearly speechless.

"Rather than waiting for historians, curators, or somebody who has a background and training expertise in handling rare artifacts, they sent the team on their own, a handful of military personnel ... and attempted to move it, dropped it, and smashed a part of it, basically impaled it," Lamonte said.

"Whoa!" Collins interjected,

"And many months later, it's still broken," Lamothe said, adding that the Pentagon did not acknowledge the extent of the damage until after the story was published.
