Top Dems ignorant of ‘extremist’ Moms for Liberty — despite warnings the group is dangerous

There’s a new face of the far-right: moms.

A vocal subset has taken the fight to recast America in the image of arch-conservatism to local school boards nationwide. And, at least when it comes to Congress, key Democrats are blissfully unaware of their activist umbrella group, Moms for Liberty, which many Republicans love but the Southern Poverty Law Center deems an ‘extremist’ threat.

Anna Duggar's dad praises slaveowners for building churches for slaves to pray their way to freedom

Disgraced reality TV star Anna Duggar's father Mike Keller, a Baptist minister in North Texas, has come under fire for a bizarre, racist sermon in which he rewrote the history of how slaves gained their freedom, with white slaveowners as the good guys, reported The Daily Beast.

Keller, who preaches at the Fairpark Baptist Church in Fort Worth, made the claim while arguing, baselessly, that the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was a "trap" set by the federal government, as part of an argument for why prayer is a better solution for political problems than violent protest.

Experts warn DeSantis' plan to end birthright citizenship is unconstitutional and may blow up in his face

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has rolled out a new campaign proposal in his attempt to outflank former President Donald Trump from the right: abolish birthright citizenship, or the principle that those born in the United States are citizens of the United States regardless of their parents' status.

The problem is, that's actually a constitutional protection, not a law that can be summarily repealed — and even DeSantis' move to push the issue can hurt him with voters — according to an analysis by the Miami Herald.

Why DeSantis’ Texas border trip 'appears to constitute a campaign finance violation': analysis

When Ron DeSantis made a campaign visit to Eagle Pass, Texas near the U.S./Mexico border on Monday, June 26, the far-right Florida governor and GOP presidential hopeful was trying to show MAGA voters that he is tougher on illegal immigration than former President Donald Trump. DeSantis even promised to end birthright citizenship if elected president, and his critics were quick to point out that the protection he is campaigning against has been in the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment since 1868.

During the visit, DeSantis' allies photographed him in front of a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter. But promoting that photo, according to the Daily Beast's Roger Sollenberger, could be problematic from a legal standpoint.

With former President Donald Trump facing a 37-count federal criminal prosecution, countless Republicans are claiming that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has been "weaponized" against members of their party. Even Republicans who are running against Trump in the 2024 GOP presidential primary are making that claim, and they are promising a dramatic overhaul of DOJ if elected president.

But journalist David M. Drucker, in an article published by The Dispatch on June 28, reports that privately, some Republicans are dismissing that promise as right-wing performance art.

Scheduled speakers include Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

"Moms for Liberty is a far-right organization that engages in anti-student inclusion activities and self-identifies as part of the modern parental rights movement. The group grew out of opposition to public health regulations for COVID-19, opposes LGBTQ+ and racially inclusive school curriculum, and has advocated books bans," says the Southern Poverty Law Center.
