Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) suggested on Tuesday that he would run again despite promising not to seek a third term.

Johnson was asked about his plans during an interview on Fox & Friends.

"I'll be making that decision in the next few weeks here," the senator explained. "One thing that will definitely drive it though is just the results of Democratic governance. This is a disaster for our nation."

"Do you feel like you have a responsibility now given everything that's happened in Wisconsin and around our country?" Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt wondered.

"Quite honestly, if you're in a position to try and help things, would you walk away?" Johnson replied. "That's certainly what's on my mind. I don't know that I can just simply walk away at this point in time."

In 2016, Johnson said that he would step down at the end of his second term if voters reelected him.
