'His voice impairment benefits him': Psychotherapist offers 'observations' on Trump pick
A key Donald Trump nominee is benefiting from a disability, according to a psychotherapist.
Trump chose former Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the top Health Department post, resulting in grilling by senators on both sides of the aisle.
Nick Carmody JD, MS, a psychotherapist and lawyer, was asked whether Kennedy believes what he's saying or not.

"Some observations on RFK: His voice impairment benefits him, because it's difficult to pick up on subtle 'tells' in inflection, cadence, tone, or changes in comfort, confidence, or authenticity when speaking," Carmody wrote Saturday. "Instead, there is a mix of truth, speculation, opinion, and conspiracy that is distorted and distracted by his speaking/voice issues."
The expert went on to note a specific moment during the confirmation hearing.
"At one point during his confirmation hearings, when confronted with the fact that there is no research/evidence linking Anti-depressant to school shootings, I thought I heard RFK defend his position by pointing out there is no evidence showing antidepressants don’t cause school shootings," he wrote. "Two points: - The burden of proof is on the party making the accusation. - It's impossible to prove a negative. The absence of proof that something doesn’t cause an event…..isn’t proof that it does."
Carmody added that Kennedy "repeatedly did not remember previously making controversial/inflammatory statements, or speaking in more absolute terms/certainty, than he was unwilling to say in the hearing."
"RFK's lack of recall seemed sincere. Perhaps it’s age related (he’s 71)," the analyst wrote. "Perhaps he’s just someone who gets on a roll, feeds off the attention, and continues to say increasingly undisciplined/irresponsible/bombastic statements that entertains the podcast host/audience…..which brings more attention to him."
He adds that Kennedy "seems to be someone who recognizes legitimate societal problems, and takes initiative to solve them, but lacks the intellectual/moral discipline to rein himself in when objective reality/evidence ceases to support his obsession.
"This causes him to drift into speculation/opinion/conspiracy," he added.
