Did tariffs make America great? According to a New York Times op-ed published Friday, the short answer is no.

Peter Coy, a veteran business and economics columnist for the Times, dug into a report written by two leading economists who set out on a mission to discover if steep tariffs imposed “during America’s Gilded Age – roughly 1870 to 1900” could be credited with the rise of American manufacturing during the period.

Conservative pollster and focus grouper Frank Luntz revealed to CNN the two voting blocs he will be watching most critically when the votes start rolling in on Tuesday evening.

Luntz, an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, said he is "uniquely afraid" that the election conspiracy theories Trump has promoted could ultimately lead to widespread civil unrest.

The Supreme Court handed the GOP a blow in a vital battleground state Friday, ruling that Pennsylvania can count backup votes when mail-in ballots are rejected.

The state's high court adopted a "controversial interpretation of important provisions" in the state's election code, the court wrote in its ruling. The court held that a provisional ballot must be counted even if the voter previously submitted an invalid mail-in ballot prior to the deadline.

The 2024 election will decide the next steps of the two federal investigations into Donald Trump.

One person in the Justice Department said Jack Smith isn't the kind of person to "fold up the tent" if Trump is elected. He'll likely continue until faced with the promise of being fired "within two seconds."

Florida is trying to block federal authorities from monitoring the state's elections, according to a report.

The Justice Department regularly monitors elections as part of an ongoing effort to ensure federal voting laws are followed. The agency announced it “plans to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws in 86 jurisdictions in 27 states for the Nov. 5 general election.”
