Car blows up while trying to cross into Canada from U.S.: reports

A vehicle exploded Wednesday on The Rainbow Bridge connecting the U.S. and Canada at Niagara Falls. All bridges in the area have been closed and all nearby government buildings evacuated according to reports.

Niagara Falls Mayor's Office said the vehicle was crossing into Canada from the U.S. Fox News reported that explosives were inside the car and its two occupants were killed in the blast. The explosives claims has not been confirmed by other outlets.

Here's why taxpayers just paid another $1.3 million into an unused government fund

A largely unused government fund intended to pay for presidential elections continues to grow with monthly taxpayer infusions — adding nearly $1.3 million last month, according to a Raw Story analysis of U.S. Treasury records.

The Presidential Election Campaign Fund has accumulated $400.6 million in taxpayer-funded money as of Oct. 31 — funds that will likely continue to sit in a bureaucratic black hole for years, Treasury records show. The fund ballooned to more than $445.6 million as of June 30, but a nearly $47.5 million disbursement for pediatric research at the National Institutes of Health of money formerly used to put on party conventions decreased the pool of idle dollars.

Donor offers to give Dem $20M if they challenge Rashida Tlaib for Congress seat: source

A Michigan businessman offered $20 million in campaign cash to Democratic candidate Hill Harper if he agreed drop out of his Senate race and instead challenge Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) in the congressional primary, according to a source.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation said entrepreneur Linden Nelson, who has donated in the past to candidates from both parties, offered $10 million in bundled contributions directly to Harper’s campaign and $10 million in independent expenditures after Tlaib criticized Israel's government for its handling of the war against Hamas, reported Politico.

Catholic hospital group removes crucifixes to stop them being used to attack staff: report

A group of Catholic hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin is removing crucifixes from emergency units and patients rooms to protect staff from attacks using them, the Becker's Hospital Review reported.

The decision was made in response to “the changing healthcare landscape and the general increase in healthcare workers experiencing workplace violence,” according to a statement from Hospital Sisters Health System.
