Dems' Biden drama overshadowing GOP's 'freak show' in Milwaukee: analysis

Any chance that Democrats have of capitalizing on controversies at the Republican National Convention have been severely limited, writes Brian Karem for Salon, in large part because the ongoing Democratic Party panic and bid to push President Joe Biden out of the race is continuing to consume all the oxygen.

"The Republican freak show has gathered in Milwaukee this week to canonize and coronate Donald Trump, fresh off his felony conviction and a recent assassination attempt," wrote Karem. "While there you can purchase your favorite Trump T-shirt, or for just $29.99 you can purchase one with Trump and buddy Jesus smiling together. For little more than that you can buy a mug, a baseball cap, or perhaps some pajamas for your child. For those who like a live WWE event, Trump appeared with an odd-looking square bandage on his ear at the beginning of week, prompting true believers to weep, faint and praise gawd for Trump being saved by 'divine intervention.'"

Behind the Heritage Foundation's 50-year history of influencing GOP politics

As the 2024 presidential election heats up, some people are hearing about the Heritage Foundation for the first time. The conservative think tank has a new, ambitious and controversial policy plan, Project 2025, which calls for an overhaul of American public policy and government.

Project 2025 lays out many standard conservative ideas – like prioritizing energy production over environmental and climate-change concerns, and rejecting the idea of abortion as health care – along with some much more extreme ones, like criminalizing pornography. And it proposes to eliminate or restructure countless government agencies in line with conservative ideology.

Voting rights advocacy organizations are calling on the Ohio Secretary of State to create consistency within the county boards of elections when it comes to voter registration challenges.

The urgency comes in particular because of one group, the Ohio Election Integrity Network, which advocates say has been approaching multiple Ohio counties with lists of hundreds of voters they say are ineligible to vote in Ohio and should be removed from rolls. The way in which they are approaching county boards goes against the existing process of maintaining voting rolls, elections advocates say.
