A federal judge smacked down the Trump administration's effort to drastically cut grants to the National Institutes of Health, delivering a scathing rebuke and calling out the government's clear case of racial and LGBTQ discrimination.

The Trump administration cut NIH grants as part of a sweeping effort to combat waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending. The administration has targeted non-essential and programs related to diversity, equity and inclusion programs, with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. testifying that officials aimed to “eliminate DEI funding and redirect resources toward real poverty reduction."

Two court officers were stabbed Monday morning at New York City's criminal courthouse in Manhattan, NBC New York reported.

"A suspect was taken into custody after the attack on the officers at 100 Centre Street," the report said, citing a source. "The attack happened near the entrance to the building, in the front lobby area."

New details have emerged about the events leading up to the arrest of the suspect in the assassination of a Democratic state lawmaker in Minnesota.

Police arrested 57-year-old Vance Boelter following a manhunt that started before dawn Saturday, when he allegedly shot and killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, at their Brooklyn Park home, and he is also accused of shooting and wounding state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, at their home in Champlin.

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — Roughly 500 gathered at Springfield City Hall Saturday to protest the administration of President Donald Trump. But even though Trump last year highlighted the city’s 15,000 residents from Haiti, many have been been scared into the shadows, protestors said.

“I really believe that most people don’t want what’s happening right now,” said Jessica Shafer, a mental health therapist who works with vulnerable children in Springfield. “I come to things like this because I think it’s incumbent on people who can to come to these things and stand up and show people it’s OK to make your voice heard.”

Two Minnesota lawmakers were ambushed in their homes overnight by an assailant dressed as a police officer.

Gov. Greg Abbott's (R-TX) decision to activate thousands of National Guard troops for protests has left guardsmen scrambling, with at least one officer slamming the move as senseless.

Abbott said more than 5,000 Texas National Guard troops — along with over 2,000 state police officers — were deployed across the state ahead of what's expected to be large-scale protests against federal immigration raids and President Donald Trump’s actions. Nationwide "No Kings" protests were scheduled for the weekend, including in Houston, Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio.

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said Friday his committee will investigate Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D).

Comer penned a letter to the Justice Department saying that the protesters in LA "committed vicious acts of violence and fearmongering directed at law enforcement and others," Fox News reported Friday. "They set fire to vehicles and property around the city, and assaulted officers with deadly weapons such as rocks and Molotov cocktails."
