Anheuser-Busch stock climbs after Trump endorses Bud Light. ‘Not a Woke company’

ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch InBev stock prices are inching closer to what they were last year before sales tanked, thanks at least in part to a recent endorsement by former President Donald Trump. Trump praised the company on social media on Tuesday, helping push Anheuser-Busch stock prices up about $2, or almost 3%, that day. And they have continued to increase, closing at $65.61 on Thursday, close to last year’s high of $67.09 a share. Still, experts say it is too early to tell if Trump’s seal of approval will impact beer sales. “It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement,” Dav......

After 127 years, craft beer pioneer Anchor Brewing shuts its doors

Iconic San Francisco beer maker Anchor Brewing Co. has shut down production, ending a 127-year run for what's considered to be America's first craft brewery. Known for its complex ales, Anchor Brewing is owned by Tokyo-based Sapporo Holdings — which also is the parent company of Escondido's Stone Brewing. The closure does not signal a change in Sapporo's strategy of making the U.S. a growth driver for its beer business, according to the company. "Anchor Brewing's plans to cease operations are unique to Anchor's business only," said Maria Stipp, chief executive of Stone Brewing. "Plans set fort......

Brad Pitt accused of ‘looting’ winery he shared with Angelina Jolie

A legal dispute involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continues to intensify, as new court documents detail Pitt’s alleged misconduct regarding a French estate and winery which the actors previously co-owned. Jolie’s former investment company Nouvel has accused Pitt and “co-conspirators” of attempting to maintain control over Chateau Miraval by depleting its assets through “stripping” and “looting,” according to a recent filing obtained by CNN. The documents, filed Monday, show that Nouvel is now seeking at least $350 million in damages. “Pitt wasted the company’s assets, spending millions on......

California has a new take on mezcal and tequila. How Sacramento-area farmers are leading it

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On recent a brisk March morning in Woodland’s rolling hills, Raul “Reppo” Chavez was already covered in sweat. Chavez and his cousin Antonio had spent the last half-hour hacking away at their agave plants — monstrous pineapple-looking beasts whose spiky leaves are all that can be seen above the soil. The jimadors, as the farmers of the unique succulent are called, were harvesting agave that they planted six to eight years ago. After a stormy weekend, they will roast the 100-pound agave hearts (known as piñas) for five to seven days in an 8-feet-deep pit covered with pumice......

Controversial Kyle Rittenhouse event at Venetian Resort Las Vegas canceled

Right-wing activist Kyle Rittenhouse promoted his planned attendance at an event at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. But that Wednesday night appearance has been nixed. “You guys aren’t going to wanna miss out on this one!” Rittenhouse tweeted Sunday evening. Rittenhouse’s excited Sin City announcement came shortly after a Texas brewery pulled the plug on the 20-year-old gunman, who famously killed two unarmed men at a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest in southern Wisconsin. A first-come-first-serve open bar was promised on a “gun rights” flier Rittenhouse posted again Monday with further detai......

Army veteran who stopped the Club Q shooter owns a brewery. Supporters nationwide are buying his goods to say thanks

Supporters across the country are expressing their gratitude to the Army veteran who restrained the alleged shooter at a Colorado Springs LGBTQ club by buying beer, T-shirts and hoodies from his business. Richard M. Fierro, 45, has been lauded for springing to action during the shooting at Club Q that killed five and injured 18 last Saturday. Fierro, a decorated Army veteran, was attending a drag show at the club with friends and family when the gunman opened fire with an AR-15 style rifle. Fierro and other patrons, including one who used her high heels as a weapon, charged the shooter. Fierro......
