Trump's gains with Black voters evaporate as Kamala Harris enters race

Donald Trump's gains with Black voters have been wiped out since Kamala Harris became the likely Democratic nominee.

Recent polling has suggested president Joe Biden was losing support among Black voters, who had been crucial to his 2020 election win, but new polling taken after he exited the race showed they overwhelmingly backed the vice president over the Republican nominee, reported Newsweek.

"[The] swift shift in support for Trump to Harris among Black voters tells you something about how fickle Trump's support was among these voters," said Costas Panagopoulos, a political science professor at Northeastern University. "Once they had a viable alternative that also happens to share their racial identity, they jumped ship from Trump almost instantly."...

Trump attacks Black barbershop owner who said he was 'betrayed' over campaign event

Donald Trump is now attacking the Black owner of a Georgia barbershop who claimed he was suckered into becoming part of a Trump campaign event.

Speaking with both Atlanta News First and News 11 Alive, Rocky Jones, owner of Rocky's Barbershop in Buckhead, said he was blindsided when Trump called to the get-together and the exchange was filmed and used to promote the ex-president who was in town for his debate with President Joe Biden.

On Saturday night, the Trump team hit back, pointing to a contract that Jones purportedly signed for the barbershop event....

Internet piles on GOP lawmaker who proclaimed Trump a 'harbinger of Black excellence'

Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) took to Fox Business ahead of the CNN debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, to proclaim that the former president is a great force for good in the Black community.

"President Trump is a harbinger of Black excellence," Hunt, who is Black, told host Larry Kudlow. He went on to tout his recent gathering with voters at a barbershop in Atlanta alongside his fellow guest, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), where Trump's mugshot from the Fulton County criminal case was on display; some of Trump's allies have bizarrely claimed that criminal charges could make Trump more relatable to Black people.

Commenters on social media were indignant at Hunt's claim....

Watch: CNN's Abby Phillip asks Ben Carson about Trump's comments on race

Donald Trump has recently made several comments about race and Black people in particular, even saying at one event that he could only see the "Black ones" in the crowd because of a light that was shining brightly.

In another instance of a comment that has been criticized, Trump laughed as he said Black people like him because they think that he is discriminated against and because of his now-famous mugshot from the Fulton County, Georgia, RICO case.

Former Trump official Ben Carson appeared on CNN Newsnight with Abby Phillip Friday night to discuss his own comments, as well as Trump's statements. ...

'The caucacity': Strategist says Trump's comments to Black people could backfire

Donald Trump's recent comments at an event for Black Republicans were meant to draw in a more diverse voter pool, but they may have backfired, a political strategist said Saturday.

The former president was criticized for his "pandering" remarks at Friday night's Black Conservative Federation Gala, where made numerous comments that stood out to political onlookers. Among other things, Trump confused a CNN panel when he looked into the crowd and said, "I can only see the black ones."

But Trump also said Black people "like" him because he was indicted and because they view him as having been discriminated against....

'Pandering': Trump brutally mocked for spewing 'racial tropes' at Black conservative event

Former president Donald Trump was the keynote speaker of the Black Conservative Federation's Annual BCF Honors Gala in Columbia, South Carolina, Friday, where he purportedly spread racial tropes in an effort to court minority voters.

Early in the speech, Trump celebrated being indicted several times, saying, "That's why Black people like me." He went on to make numerous other comments that were labeled as tone deaf or potentially even worse, and criticism on social media spread like wildfire.

"Trump says black people love him because he's a criminal. I told you guys, this is what they think of us," said a news editor....
