'You used to be conservative': Fox News icon gets brutal fact check for Trump king comment

Fox News political analyst Brit Hume was hit with outrage on Saturday after appearing to reject the premise of the "No Kings" protests this weekend.

Hume took to social media to defend the president. He wrote, "The 'No Kings' rallies are mostly a protest against a man who sought power 3 times through democratic elections and enacted his major agenda item by majority vote of democratically elected members of Congress."

"Some king," he then added.

But he was quickly corrected.

Ex-GOP lawmaker Adam Kinzinger replied directly to Hume, writing, "Come on. You know what this means."

"Of course he’s not a literal king because we won’t let him be. But our nation was founded on anti-corruption, disseminating power to the people, holding all equal under the law," he wrote Saturday. "Trump tried to overthrow a free election, pardoned 1000 criminals, and has placed congress on their knees. Oh not to mention the Epstein files, and his 400 million dollar free jet that we will pay 1 billion to upgrade and give to him. Gold palaces and ballrooms and massive arches are not the works of someone who seeks humble power."

Political scientist Norman Ornstein had a list of his own:

"Executive actions, illegal acts, including 'pocket' rescissions, firing people and eliminating agencies, bragging about killing fisherman in violation of international law. Weaponized DOJ and FBI in an open campaign of retribution," he wrote. "Masked thugs without identification assaulting children and American citizens, throwing them into detention without their constitutional rights being respected. Federal judges nominated by every modern president trying to block imperial actions. Brit, you used to be a conservative."

He continued: "Let’s talk about selling pardons, violating emoluments clauses by enriching himself and his family through his office, including a $400 million jet bribe from Qatar, and Trump resorts in various countries, not done out of largesse but knowing they can extract something in return."

Ornstein concluded, "If you don’t see something troubling in all of this, Brit, you have replaced your integrity with fealty to the cult. Which is very, very sad."

'He never thought I would win!' Trump rages against Fox News' Brit Hume

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Fox News commentator Brit Hume on his Truth Social platform Thursday, repeating his conspiracy theories that the 2020 presidential election was stolen and raging that Hume doesn't acknowledge his supposed actual victory.

"Brit Hume of Fox has really gotten it wrong!" Trump wrote. "First of all, he never thought I would win in 2016, & some things never change. In 2020 I got more votes than any sitting President in history, by far. Biden didn’t get 80 million votes."

"The Election was Rigged, even if you just want to go by the recent FBI/Twitter Files Hoax, or the DOJ/Facebook Scam, or True the Vote, where tapes of millions of Votes are shown being 'Stuffed.' He likes to say I lost, but I didn’t, & my Endorsements almost all won!" Trump continued.

There is no evidence of ballot-stuffing, or of any meaningful election tampering in 2020, and also no evidence that any social media platform tried to rig the election, including in the hyped-up "Twitter Files" posted at the direction of tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Trump has never completely acknowledged that he legitimately lost the 2020 presidential election, frequently claiming with no foundation that the election was fraudulent and even at one point suggesting the Constitution be "terminated" to let him back into office.

However, in some candid moments, he has let slip that he knows he actually lost.

But...But!

I'm not sure why conservatives keep bringing up the "but this woulda been a senior moment for McCain!" specter when it comes to what they perceive are Barack Obama gaffes (and what actually appear to be some guy behind him continually talking through his speech). The most famous version of the media harping on "senior moments" is Fox News' 64-year-old Brit Hume attempting to excuse a McCain flub, which would seem to sort of counteract the idea of McCain's base going after him.
