Legal experts skewer Trump DOJ as its effort to bury evidence of misconduct backfires

Legal experts skewer Trump DOJ as its effort to bury evidence of misconduct backfires

Legal experts pounded the Department of Justice as it faces a possible probe into its failed effort to bury evidence of misconduct.

Adam Klasfeld, editor-in-chief of All Rise News, and Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor, weighed in on a court filing demanding a special counsel probe into DOJ's botched prosecution of the Broadview Six, a group of protesters arrested for demonstrating outside an immigration detention facility near Chicago.

A federal judge tossed the case after she found evidence of prosecutorial misconduct in the complete grand jury transcripts, which the DOJ attorneys had tried to withhold. ...

Anti-ICE protesters warned of dire long-term effects of this brutal tactic

Anti-ICE protesters warned of dire long-term effects of this brutal tactic

Following a second fatal shooting by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, public health experts are sounding a stark warning about the immediate and long-term effects of the agency’s use of even non-lethal crowd control weapons like tear gas, pepper bombs and flash-bang grenades.

On Saturday, video evidence showed ICE agents pepper spraying Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old veterans intensive care unit nurse, before wrestling him to the ground, where he was shot. Pretti was declared dead at the scene. Forensic audio analysis revealed at least 10 shots fired in less than five seconds.

“The justification for the use of [crowd control weapons] is that they reduce these kind of violent clashes, escalations, and so should really only be used as kind of a last-ditch measure to prevent violence and death and injuries,” Ryan Marino, an emergency room physician and medical toxicologist in Cleveland told Raw Story....

Bovino hurls accusations at CNN's Jake Tapper — and gets bruising reply

Customs and Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino took a shot at CNN anchor Jake Tapper Monday — and got shot down by facts from the journalist.

Tapper had pointed out how Bovino's credibility has come under question in the past as Bovino tried to make a series of claims after ICE agents killed 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis this weekend.

Tapper wrote in a post on X Sunday that the border commander had been caught spreading falsehoods in an earlier court case. "'Bovino admitted in his deposition that he lied multiple times,' wrote the judge," Tapper posted.

Trump admin handed big Supreme Court loss over National Guard deployment in Chicago

The Trump administration was handed a big Supreme Court loss Tuesday over deploying National Guard troops in Chicago.

The High Court ruled that Trump and his administration lacked the authority to federalize and deploy the National Guard to enforce laws in Illinois.

“At this preliminary stage, the government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,” the court wrote in the unsigned order.

Trump admin 'misstates' key facts to Supreme Court about Chicago ICE raids: report

Trump admin 'misstates' key facts to Supreme Court about Chicago ICE raids: report

The Trump administration made mistaken and misleading claims over the deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago in an emergency docket to the Supreme Court, according to a new report.

A New York Times investigation published Tuesday revealed that the administration erroneously distorted Chicago Police Department officers' responsiveness and protesters' actions in a filing that requested the high court to allow the troops in the Windy City.

"The emergency request, filed by the solicitor general, D. John Sauer, which draws heavily from court declarations made by two Homeland Security officials, misstates what happened in the aftermath of a car crash and shooting on Oct. 4 in Chicago that involved Border Patrol agents," The Times reported. ...
