An energy adviser for President Donald Trump slammed a White House plan to halt diesel exports for 90 days as midterm pressure mounts.

According to a Wednesday article by Politico, the Trump administration is moving toward a temporary ban despite divisions within its own ranks and opposition from fuel producers. Five anonymous insiders told Politico about the discussions and internal division.

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on Thursday didn't confirm or deny whether oil would hit $200 a barrel as gas prices continue to surge and the conflict in Iran has escalated to a global economic crisis.

CNN International host Becky Anderson spoke with anchor and correspondent Eleni Giokos about how the U.S.-Israeli strikes in Iran have prompted Iran to block the Strait of Hormuz and strike back at the international oil market. Iran has signaled that it aims to spike oil prices to $200 a barrel.

"I think it basically contradicts a lot of what we heard from the Energy Secretary, and we know he was asked about whether oil is going to hit $200 a barrel," Giokos said. "He couldn't definitively say no and I think that's very telling about where we are and also, quite interestingly, when he was asked about naval escorts, he says we were not ready for that yet, it will happen at the end of the month, but hang on, we thought this was hopefully going to end by the end of the month, which obviously isn't the timeline that's realistic." ...

The Trump administration official was caught with his eyes closed, leaning back in the sun and soaking up some rays when Fox News anchors cut to him on camera. One of the anchors appeared to giggle at the unusual situation. The live feed ended abruptly when Wright didn't respond to his name.

An oil baron is fighting renewable energy production by influencing fellow billionaire Donald Trump, a New York Times opinion piece warned Monday.

Fracking pioneer Harold Hamm earned a considerable fortune in fossil fuels and is not willing to watch renewable energy — produced by wind, solar, and hydropower — take a bite out of his profits, according to energy writer Russell Gold. Hamm's privately held company is the 13th-largest oil producer in the United States, raking in $2 billion in profits last year, the article said.

Hamm began his campaign against the "parasitic" wind industry in Oklahoma in 2016, about the same time he endorsed Trump's first presidential campaign. Since then, Hamm "has taken his fight against renewables national — and made a project out of influencing President Trump," the article says....
