An analyst revealed Tuesday how White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller's war on immigration has created political repercussions for Republicans and prompted President Donald Trump to change course as a result of the defeat.

In the fallout over ICE's killing of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Trump's retreat in Minnesota has signaled a major shift among Republicans and within the Trump administration, The Atlantic's Jonathan Chait wrote. Trump has reportedly considered a shift in the policy constructed by Miller, the architect of the administration's aggressive immigration actions, influenced by the sharp public response to ICE in Minnesota.

"Trump’s retreat in Minneapolis is a stinging defeat for the national conservatives, the Republican Party’s most nakedly authoritarian faction," Chait wrote. "The NatCons believe American liberalism cannot be dealt with through normal political methods such as persuasion and compromise." ...

Donald Trump has reportedly decided to slice in half the size of the Republican party's platform, a move expected to cause waves of infighting among GOP leaders and special interests.

The New York Times reported Saturday that the ex-president's "top advisers are planning to drastically scale back and simplify the official platform of the Republican Party," citing "a memo sent to the party’s platform committee."

"The memo — signed by Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, the former president’s two lead advisers — described their efforts to pare down the platform 'to ensure our policy commitments to the American people are clear, concise and easily digestible,'" according to the report. "It dismissed past platforms as needlessly 'textbook-long' documents shaped by 'special interest influence' that had left the party and its nominee open to attacks from Democrats."...

Donald Trump on Tuesday ignited fury for some conservatives, who say the former president was wrong to promote the controversial Bud Light.

Trump earlier in the day offered a full-on defense of the beer brand, which was criticized for partnering with a transgender woman in one of its minor promotions.

"The Bud Light ad was a mistake of epic proportions, and for that a very big price was paid, but Anheuser-Busch is not a Woke company, but I can give you plenty that are, am building a list, and might just release it for the World to see," Trump said....

House Speaker Mike Johnson is getting a little taste of conservative hate after a recent post on his social media.

Johnson, who replaced Speaker Kevin McCarthy, was recently hit with a direct attack from fellow GOPer Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. She claimed that "no member" of the National Defense Authorization Act conference "had any influence on this process."

"It was done in secret meetings with no input from conferees," the lawmaker wrote....

Conservative columnist George Will penned a scathing opinion for The Washington Post, taking the Republican Party to the shed for its "moronic, clownish politics" in the face of a new crop of global threats that require steady leadership.

"There is turmoil in the party that controls only one congressional chamber and cannot control itself," wrote Will, referring to the inability of the GOP to elect a new House speaker after ousting their original one. "The unfolding presidential campaign is doing nothing to elucidate intelligent responses to two regional wars abroad and fiscal incontinence at home."

Nor, Will wrote, is the House the only obstacle to confronting the threats America faces....

The big scandal in the news is that Melania Trump, the same person who lied about graduating with an architecture degree from the University of Slovenia, plagiarized her speech at the Republican National Convention.
