GOP senator's Trump claim on Fox unravels as president's disclosure hurled in her face

GOP senator's Trump claim on Fox unravels as president's disclosure hurled in her face

A Republican lawmaker's claims about President Donald Trump's crypto investments backfired on Tuesday when the internet fact-checked her comments.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) defended Trump on Fox News and argued that the president had conducted his digital currency business before returning to the White House for his second term, despite reports that Trump has raked in more than $1 billion in crypto earnings since his first year in office.

"The president made his money on digital assets before he took the oath of office, so we have to make sure that people, when they are private citizens, can retain their rights to make money and use their intellectual prowess to make money in this country," Lummis said. "That's not wrong. In fact, that's kind of the great American capitalist premise."...

Republicans get stark warning Trump-backed voting bill will blow up in their faces

WASHINGTON — Democrats have continued to push back on the SAVE Act while Republicans were pushing for what President Donald Trump has called the number one GOP priority, and now the Senate plans to continue debating the controversial bill all weekend.

If passed into law, the Republican-backed legislation would require U.S. citizens to provide voter ID at the ballot box, and mail-in votes would be massively hindered. But some lawmakers have expressed concern that this could ultimately backfire on Republicans, especially ahead of the midterms and 2028 presidential election.

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) told Raw Story in an exclusive interview that the SAVE Act would greatly impact seniors and disenfranchise them — and that the legislation wasn't about making sure citizens can vote, but instead ensuring that Trump can have federal control of upcoming elections....

‘Harm Democrats’: Republican lawmakers practically giddy about Trump prison silver lining

WASHINGTON — Many Republicans on Capitol Hill are all but daring New York Judge Juan Merchan to lock Donald Trump up ahead of November.

After former President Donald Trump and Republican campaign committees saw a windfall of donations after the guilty verdict came down, the GOP base is enlivened and that’s only emboldening rank-and-file Republicans who are feeling bullish.

“I think it’s bulls—,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Raw Story of the guilty verdict. “It’d be seen as election interference on steroids.” ...

‘That's the Kool-Aid’: Republicans triple down on Trump the morning after guilty verdict

WASHINGTON — Here, on Trump’s Morning After, Republicans are feeling bullish. That’s right. On the right — today’s new right, that is — former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict is seen as a boon for the GOP.

While the GOP could use this week’s historic guilty verdict to break up with the man who co-opted their party back in 2016, it doesn’t seem Republicans are ready to go back to their Reaganesque conservative roots. Instead, they’re tripling down on Trump and betting that his personal brand of populism will carry the party to victory come November.

Senate GOP smites MTG: ‘Ridiculous,’ ‘chaos,’ ‘foolish,’ ‘turmoil’

WASHINGTON — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is making the Republican Party look ridiculous.

That’s according to Republican senators.

In exclusive interviews with 22 Republican U.S. senators, Raw Story found a trend — ranging from annoyance to anger to alarm — over the Georgia Republican congresswoman’s plan to formally deploy her motion to vacate House Speaker Mike Johson this week. ...

Capitol offense: King of GOP Never Trumpers just hurt a lot of big Republican feelings

WASHINGTON – Most Senate Republicans didn’t tune in to watch Chris Christie formally exit the Republican Party presidential primary this week, but the former New Jersey governor landed a verbal blow that’s left many of the Capitol’s top GOPers smarting.

On his way out the door, Christie tripled down on his losing anti-Trump campaign theme when he accused Republican elected officials of “cowardice and hypocrisy.”
